Diminishing returns on materials when deconstructing

reposting this from the general forum. .

I have found that I have been more interested in crafting than questing and spend much more of my time gathering materials and completing writs. I also am one of those players you see in town stealing everything in sight so I can turn around and deconstruct it. My basic question is: is there a system of diminishing returns on the materials collected as you raise from tier to tier? For example my character was in the low 40s last week and I was deconstructing dwarven ingots, spider silk, and hickory. I have a set route in town where I'll steal the same amount of items. I was netting about 120 dwarven ingots from each run. Now I am level 46 and I've graduated to ebony ingots and I'm only netting an average of 80 from the same items.

If such a system of diminishing returns exists, can someone send me a chart that shows the math? I'd be much appreciative. Thanks again and nice to be here! I'm sure the issues that exist for console will work themselves out. I am going to stay positive because of my love for the elder scrolls universe.

It's purely RNG. One thing, do you have your Extraction skill maxed?

Another thing to keep in mind, if your at a lower level than the items you are deconning, you get less mats (I think). Low enough, and you get no mats (I know). Making sure you have the material level unlocked for what you are deconning can help to a point.

I have deconstructed my way from 1 to 50 in all equipment crafting on 4 characters, and have never noticed less mats for higher level items except under the conditions above.

EDIT Now, if your deconning the world items, those may have different rules on them. They were added in as loot during the Justice System launch and replaced the existing 0 Value World Items that gave no mats back during decon. The above I described applies to Mob Loot. So, it could very well be that Legerdemain Loot follows different rule sets.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Thank you! Yes I have extraction maxed and I'm lev 50 in all 3 trades. The items that I am deconstructing are purely stolen (legerdemain) items and I am stealing a consistent number of items from the vendors each run. I steal right at 40 pieces of heavy armor and metal weapons and netted 120 dwarven ingots (3 to 1 ratio) Now that I'm lev 46 I'm netting 80 ebony ingots (2 to 1 ratio), give or take 10 due to RNG. This is an extremely consistent number as on weeknights I'll do 5-10 runs a night and my results are the same.

I'm not mentioning my results from clothing and woodworking but I am seeing similar results there as well. There has to be a super nerd out there that has crunched these numbers and made a chart! Maybe that need will end up being me if no one responds :)

i never recorded any numbers about it but i'm under the same impression at each skill point spent
(tbh, for me you already are the super nerd that made a chart and comforted me in this idea)

wild guess is that the number of extracted items is influenced by skill rank minus item lvl.

Problem for me is that I need to get my crafting stats up high enough,or I cant craft any levels higher than 14,even when have all the right mats. Not even with my two vets,so I gave up. I watch my levels to see when they raise, but it takes forever and tons of running all over and thieving. Provisioning is the only one that levels up nicely and easily.Well, for me anyway.I wish I could find a way to get those other talents up there a bit easier.
