Deconstructing material

First post!! Hello ESO I'm a long time MMO player (as some of you can recognize by my name). I've been on ESO since launch on PC but never really played for any significant amount of time. I made the switch to PS4 and now I'm hooked. I have the same gripes as most people on console regarding voice chat only and the guild trader system but that is well documented in other posts so that's all you'll hear about it from me. Both need to be fixed.

Anyway I have found that I have been more interested in crafting than questing and spend much more of my time gathering materials and completing writs. I also am one of those players you see in town stealing everything in sight so I can turn around and deconstruct it. My basic question is: is there a system of diminishing returns on the materials collected as you raise from tier to tier? For example my character was in the low 40s last week and I was deconstructing dwarven ingots, spider silk, and hickory. I have a set route in town where I'll steal the same amount of items. I was netting about 120 dwarven ingots from each run. Now I am level 46 and I've graduated to ebony ingots and I'm only netting an average of 80 from the same items.

If such a system of diminishing returns exists, can someone send me a chart that shows the math? I'd be much appreciative. Thanks again and nice to be here! I'm sure the issues that exist for console will work themselves out. I am going to stay positive because of my love for the elder scrolls universe.

The voice chat is fine as it is. There is no need for text chat. Horribly disagree.

The guild traders are great way they are. If an auction house would be brought in, I really believe prices would skyrocket for items and everything would be overpriced. As of right now things level off and find a fair price due to some smart guilds offering competitive prices.

But to answer your question. You mean do stolen items go down in value after higher level? Not that I know of. The AI just buys it as "X" ingot. It does not differentiate that I noticed.
Queen Ayrenn build that wall around Summerset.

    Make Shimmerene great again!

No that's not what I meant. If you deconstruct 10 items and get 30 dwarven ingots but only 20 ebony ingots from the same 10 items, is there a chart out there that shows this and how it is explained?

My understanding for how this works is you'll only get the material ingots that are based on that items creation. For example if it is an ebony sword, you'll only ever get ebony ingots. However, if you're passive skill for blacksmithing is not high enough, you will not get any ingots. Also, I've looted full inventory space and then deconstructed in bulk...I did not notice any diminishing amount of ingots returned to me....I believe it is random, but after deconstructing a lot, it is not as though you will continually get nothing. Also, this might be better positioned for answers from within the crafting subsection on the forums.

I assume it's based off your crafting skill level (blacksmithing in this case) and not your character level. You steal items that are based off your character level but when you deconstruct them it's determined by your blacksmithing, same with the chance of getting the colored crafting material (which can be increased with passives). I don't know of any way to calculate the percentages, maybe PC has a way to view the stats.

My blacksmithing level was 50 in each scenario. Same amount of items deconstructed but netting about a third less ebony ingots than I did dwarven

Hey what server did you play on ac?

Im not sure exactly whats happening with the ingot thing I never noticed a difference. Are all your passives trained?

I've noticed that if I take all the weapons just sitting on the ground in cold harbour and deconstruct them there I get next to nothing. But if I take them to Vukhals guard I get a lot more.

It seems that the higher grade stuff just gives less material then.

What town do you steal from if I may ask? I clean out Vulkhel Guard every time I'm there. :)

Hey oak I played on the Wintersebb server from 99 to 03. Hardest but most personally rewarding MMO I've ever played. This was back in the days before little arrows on your map telling you where to go next! It was truly open world and good luck if you were a new player

Yea I've seen a trend in getting less and less but was hoping someone out there made a chart. No biggie I guess!

I loot the town of storm hold currently. It has a lot of unguarded blacksmithing and clothing mats. Now that I'm getting closer to vet ranks I'm thinking about picking up shop and moving elsewhere but haven't found any good places yet

If I'm understanding the OPs question its about as you increase in item rank, lvl 1-50, vr1-14 etc, does the amount of materials netted from Decon diminish (get less) as the item level increases?

Personally I haven't paid much attention to it but would t mind knowing

I notice when I loot weapons from a rack, they decon for very little XP. As an experiment I had my Blacksmith improve them to green - and the XP (for both he and a different character) for deconning them (this was vet 1 items) went from 300-some to 3,000 some XP. So IF you have extra honing stones and really want to level blacksmithing fast, this could work.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Nice. I played darktide for a few years starting at release. By far my favorite mmo of all time. Grinding was an actual grind back then.

    Very tricky question.

A lot of variables in there.

When I go stealing, I also sometimes get items that are actually worth something (not just 0 value white items). I sometimes steal valued white items, greens, blues... I got a purple great sword off of a weapon rack in a shop once!. launder and decon thank you very much!.

I'm assuming you are talking about all white 0 value items, because any item with a value with deconstruct for more XP, and items... throwing the count off.

Some tiers feel like they give less, even for valued items. (Vet 7-8 leather mats) for example.

I also never seem to have enough V1 cloth, even though I loot a lot of light armor and harvest a lot of kreshweed.

I'm just lumping everything together. Whites with 0 value, whites with value, along with the 1 or 2 greens that I get when stealing from shops in town. I'll rarely get a blue and I think I did also get a purple one time. If I get an item that sells to vendors for 280% more I'll just sell that item instead of deconstruct.

I agree 100% about some tiers giving less materials as I can prove over dozens of runs that you get more dwarven than ebony. I only started keeping track at dwarven so I'd have to start a lev 1 character to do a full analysis of each tier.

I see that you mentioned that you launder before you deconstruct. Does this net you more materials?
