Hardcore Servers?

I thought it would be a good idea for a hardcore mode kinda thing was implemented where you make a charcter and have one life, once you die you lose your character and the items could be looted off the deads body's and full PvP was enabled. I feel it would bring a more survival feeling to certain aspects of the game and would give people who would like a true challenge a more indulging experience. Although it would be completely optional and in a different instance to the current 'system'.

Does anyone else like this Idea??

I wonder how many people would go through the process of making a character losing it then starting again, not many on console I can tell you, maybe P.C I don't know.

Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.

Doesn't sound very appealing to me. There might be a few people that could like this concept, but ZOS will certainly not install a server (or three servers, one for each platform) for just a handful of players. However, a dedicated instance on the current servers may work.

Permanent death is a little much. I like the idea of a hardcore server with corpse looting (non-equipped items) and maybe exp loss upon death, possibly severe. However, this game is still young and has many many issues that need to be fixed in the normal game before effort is spent on huge overhauls.

Indifferent to the idea, but the game is not made around this - so no....especially when player base are touting their posts here on the forums, I doubt it will go very well for ZOS.

    Play EVE instead.

Granted it has its disadvantages, but many people play games like DayZ and H1Z1 because of the 1 life system. Where it may not appeal to certain people it could also bring in a larger fan-base from other 1 life survival games.

It may attract a larger fan-base from other 1 life survival games but the amount of resources that can be reallocated to design this is outweighed by the cost of making the current system better. Therefore, from a business point of view, it is not something ZOS will implement as it's more efficient and productive to put their resources to make the current system better for everyone.

This game has too many bugs for that. Beside, the premise of the game is your soul is stolen and you can't really die which makes you a champion.

Well if it was to happen 'per se', surely it would be separated from the main story because as you point out it doesn't make sense

    dumbest idea ever.

1 live in an mmo is dumb it works in rogue likes where the game is short.

a hardcore server could work, lose a bit of xp when you die in pve and allow pvp in the entire game world not just cyrodil,

but not anything where you get reset completely? it takes weeks to hit vet 1 no one is going to go through that.

looting in pvp sounds like a bad idea as you die to much for it to be worth it then you are stuck with nothing, in a game like this, IMO, bad idea.

Here is how that would play out:

    - Spends 100+ hours building a perfect PvP character
    - Goes to Cyrodiil
    - Gets one-shotted after 3 minutes of playing
    - Loses the character to perma death
    - Rage quits the game and is never seen again

On a game with such a tedious and continuous progression system a permadeath mode will simply not have enough demand to actually warrant the resources.

I always play HC in games like Diablo ,POE, etc but the time it takes for you to get a new character upon death, back to a competitive level is way shorter. That make the HC mode fun and much more aproachable. There is also a matter of type of content and end game goals that we have in this game that don't really make the perma death option appealing.

    Almost...
A good PvP character could manage to be tough enough not to get one shotted. But... in cyrodil, sometimes you just have bad luck, and run into an enemy warband, and then it usually ends in an respawn no matter how good you are... (if half a dozend enemies unload at you from stealth... well, any who go to cyrodil on a regular basis likely experienced this one time or another)

Point is, permadeath is a bad idea for games that depend on many, many hours to build up your character. But hey, noone is stopping people from playing it that way if they really want to - OP, just delete your own character as soon as you get killed once!

Now... they -could- add a "hardcore" campaign, where all over cyrodil death carries some penalty in loosing gold, AP or possibly even items or XP. I suspect there would be few enough people going there that they'd shut it down again after a short while...

All in all, it would not be worth the effort for TPB to set aside a seperate server and code a "survival ESO". Too few people *** like this, too little money to be made that way.

I would like to see a hardcore server or some kind of difficulty slider for PVE. Please.

But, um, not this ... exactly ... I mean, can you imagine leveling up through all the quests in the AD, and I mean every freakin one, until you've saved everything and everyone that you hold dear (which is basically Razum-Dar and maybe one other), and now the only thing between you and another hundred hours of mind-numbing veteran quests is that evil *** Mannimarco. You steel yourself, preparing for the final battle that will sustain you through the long, long hours of drudgery ahead. Your hand trembles slightly on your Razer. You can do this. YOU CAN do this. YOU CAN -

    Hold on. Cell phone.

    Dead.

Yeah. I'd rage quit, too, and I'd take out my entire apartment complex.

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

The heroes during times of war, are nothing but mass murderers during times of peace.

I just don't think this game is designed to handle that. Takes too long to make a competitive character, and even the best players die multiple times per night in PvP. And in PvE, how would you ever learn the mechanics of boss fights? Dying, and dying a lot, is built into the gameplay at a very deep level. It is a progression game built around grinding and RNG to keep you playing the same old content over and over again. Perma-death and full corpse looting and things like that are also scams to get you to do the same old content over and over again. But progression/grinding and perma-death/corpse-looting are very different scams and require very different underlying game designs.
