Lag makes game unplayable upon startup

I have been able to play the game perfectly (ok, not perfectly) since I got it in March. Just today I moved my pc, but as far as I know everything is the same. However, when I logged on, the lag (just with the login screen) was unbearable for both my mouse and keyboard input. I couldn't even log in to the game. Any ideas as to what may be causing this?
