Installing ESO is rough stuff

OK, I've had to deal with this shenanigans since launch week. Sure I expected poor download speeds and all for the first couple of months that ESO was out but to still have this slug download going on a year and a half in? *really annoyed grumbling..*

Sure I have poor internet speeds, ~6-8Mb/s at best and usually around 3-4 because the family is using it also. And sure it's a wireless tower and not copper or fiber optic hard line. But still, Guild Wars 2 and WoW(and probably even Rift if I tried) install times combined take less time to install than ESO!
I have the DL speed at unlimited(but having it capped at 10 or 5 Mb/s probably wouldn't matter). I download Guild Wars 2 in 18 hours or so, depending if I pause the download for nigh netflix or what not and letting the PC rest -about a day or day in a half depending on the bandwidth and how often I need to pause it. For ESO it takes closer to 3 or 5 days -not of totally constant downloading but still something is still very off with this whole thing.
I can download Wticher 3, Skyrim, MassEffect 1, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Dishonored, and Dragon Age Inquisition much more quickly than ESO takes to download and install.. What's the deal here? Are the servers really that slow?
I've downloaded ESO several times now and it's taken at least 3 days every time..
I usually hover around 115KB/s-170KB/s.
The client window itself still seems buggy or something because it's been at xxxxx.84 MB remaining pretty much since I stated downloading on Wednesday.
sometimes it will seem to have been frozen for a while, the percentage and data remaining doesn't move or change but the current speed will..

I'm at 23650.84MB remaining, 13% done, after probably 13 or so hours of downloading..

Has anyone else noticed the download and install seeming to take an irregularly long time compared to similarly sizable downloads or MMO's?

It's not news that launcher is extremely buggy, sometimes pausing and resuming the download magically fixes the randomly dropped speed, you could try that. You might also want to check it every once in a while because at least my launcher occasionally pulls some random error and stops downloading at all until you press "resume" again, meaning it can be idle for hours if you don't notice it. Apart from that I don't know how to help you:/
It takes me a bit less than a day usually(I've had to reinstall it a couple times by now) with average speed of 1-2 Mb/s. My internet is somewhere at over 50 Mb/s though.
I cannot compare to other game because I never really played any other MMOs.

I keep my system up to date always. There are only 3 games that I play, eso being one of them. Eso by far and I really do mean by far...is the only game I have problems with. I have a year old system and never experience any problems with other games.

Eso's patches are the worst and after a year and a half their launchers aren't any better. Which makes me wonder if they even have a clue about what they are doing. My game for the most part runs great...when it's working, but come a Monday patch like this last one. I am able to get online but after I log off I keep getting a 209 error saying unable to determine latest blah blah blah. Then wants me to run a repair. So I'm stuck going throuh the client if I want to play. That's until the next patch, then I'm stick with running a repair.

Basically I'm stuck running a repair about once a month. I don't have to do this with Rift or Swtor...only Eso.

Its so annoying for this to be regular process for me to have to run a repair every month all the while they are just giggling and laughing on their stupid videos acting like everything is just great.

Closing and reopening the launcher sometimes magically fixes that error. You might have to do it a few times though.

That said, I agree it's superbuggy. The launcher is a nightmare.

You realize that ESO is an 80 GB download, right? Rift and The Old Republic aren't even half that, sitting at 8.5 and 27 respectively. If your system and Internet connection can't handle a download of that size, you should probably reconsider playing this game.

Ummm yeah I know it's a 80gb download. My PC and Internet connection can handle it. If it couldn't I never would have given this game a look a year ago. Nor would I have 40 playtime days on my nightblade and 25 on my DK. It's not about the gbs. It's about how this game works great but download a Monday morning patch after maintenance and next thing you know the launcher acts all funky. ZOS knows their launcher acts up but instead of fixing it once and for all they say the same old bs like...run on admin, etc....duh yeah of course I do. Thing is the game was working fine but after I download your patch now it's not. Which is cool by me I only check my nerfed hirelings anyways then log on to something else that actually is ran by a company that knows what their doing.

Indeed, I do understand that and have been with ESO since the beginning. My annoyance comes from the fact that I have been downloading ESO for over 24 hours Straight now and in that time it's only gone from 24GB remaining to 14.5GB remaining and from 13% to 18% complete.

Thankfully I don't have a download cap from my ISP but still, why is this so large and taking so long..?
The fact that I can probably download 100GB worth of other games combined from Steam, Origin, GOG, and have all of that completed in 3/4ths the time or less and waiting around for the ESO client to get it's act together is greatly distressing..

There's a big difference between downloading an 80 GB game and eight 10 GB games at the same time...

The full size of ESO on PC according to the size of the folder "The Elder Scrolls Online EU" is 42.4 GB. At 4 Mb/s, this should take 23.55 hours. The download itself is slightly compressed, so should be closer to 35 GB (19.44 hours).

Installing ESO on PS4 is a nightmare man, you must go to Set Up Internet connection, custom, choose your usual set-up BUT change the DNS server to something public like Google's (8.8.4.4 - 8.8.8.8 I think?) or some other one, then on your PS' download, keep pressing pause and continue on the download until it starts downloading more than like 4-7 meg per second, like 1-3 hrs, depending on the size. You can change your DNS back after you've downloaded it.

Ok cool, glad to have an accurate current number. I just looked at a converter and with the client hovering around 120-170KB/s current download speed that equals to about 1.2Mb/s download speed.
What in the world. Why does the client even offer 5, 10, Unlimited maximum download speed if it never even exceeds 2Mb/s?!

You're right, at 4Mb/s that would probably take me around a day and a half to fully download it. Totally fine with that. That would be completely normal and expected. I've dealt with that sort of thing when downloading GW2, Witcher 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, etc.. -I don't like my PC running 24/7 and I try not to download much during the evening because the family streams netflix and our download averages around 5.5Mb/s.

BUT with the client doing some dumb trickle download at 1.2Mb/s and I have chosen Unlimited maximum download and I even get that ~160KB/s speed at night when people are asleep and all.... I was wondering why I only went from 11GB remaining to 6.5GB remaining in the 7 hours of sleep last night..
Why??? What in the world is going on??
Is there some router setting or whatnot that I need to tweak to allow the launcher more than 1.4Mb/s DL?
Or is it really ZOS' absurd servers...

I'm at 4.5GB remaining and I've been trying to get this downloaded for very close to a week now. I don't think it will finish by even 10PM tonight.. hopefully in the morning?

Downloading on PC is only half the battle. Install it into a folder that you keep all your games and watch the magic.

I don't think it's (just) ZOS' servers that are the issue, as my maximum download speed is 2 Mbps and I usually get 230 KB/s, which would be about right.
