Reagents:
There are 18 different known reagents that can be mixed and matched together with a solvent to craft a potion. An alchemist can mix either two or three reagents at a time to uncover a plethora of various potions that cannot be found from loot(s) or from a NPC vendor.
Reagents are found in all zones and tend to be found in similar locations based on topography. Some players have noticed certain reagents do not spawn as frequently in certain zones, which may be related to the types of topography within that zone. {quoted from Atalle's quide }
You'll notice that fe Water Hyacinth and Nirnroot always grow close to water/river, mushroom-y types of reagents are most likely to be found by trees, etc etc . Explore .

To add to the above, to an extent, the Reagents do spawn in certain areas, like Mushrooms near Trees/Rocks/Walls etc. Learn where those areas are so you can target them. But, the different reagents are pretty equally spread across the zones, so no one zone is full of one item at the expense of another.
The key to Alchemy is to always be farming. But this does not mean you just go out and farm the reagents (although you can do that if you want). What you do is farm as you go from one quest location to the other. That is a much more efficient way.
Also, Keen Eye really helps with Alchemy nodes, especially if you do the farm as you go along method. Some like Mountain Flower and Columbine are just about impossible to see without Keen Eye. Of course you can turn off the Grass in the game and then the plants stick out like a sore thumb, but I don't like the way the game world looks like that.
And, just know that farming for anything in the first zone or two is much more difficult than later on in the game. Once you get to veteran ranks, alchemy nodes are something you will trip over.
And, finally, when out harvesting, gather the mushrooms too. Even though for the most part they make poisons, they can be used to grind up the skill and allow you keep the flowers that make helpful ingredients for your self.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

@Nestor where can i farm for water i have so much materials but no water and from what i have heard you want to save some materials but while im trying to power lvl it should i just them anyway?
On top of this, if you plan to look for alchemy mats outside of questing then analyse your map carefully. There are locations which are always going to be comparatively empty because they are high traffic zones like the cities.
Oooh look, lot's of Butterflies! Wait! Butterflies? Get out of here Sheo, stop bugging me!

The most common sources of water are in bodies of water in the form of "Pure Water" nodes, water skins usually in camps or outer edges of towns, and various containers (backpacks, urns, vases).
