Steam version Question

As I understand it, the Steam version of the game client is separate from the regular retail version, and have to be purchased separately. My question is, are the accounts created from those versions also locked to using the game client that they were created from?

In other words, if I actually purchase both the regular and steam versions of the game client separately, and create separate accounts for each version, can I log into my steam-created ESO account using the standard (non-steam) version of the client, and vice-versa?

I know you can add the game as a Non Steam game to Steam if you did not get it from Steam. And, by doing so, the game is the same as the Steam Version in that regard as to having access to the Steam Overlay. Steam itself does not offer anything extra to the game.

It would be interesting if you can have both games in Steam or not, one as a Steam sourced game, one added as a Non Steam game.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
