High Elf Sorc Magicka for Beginner!

I'm downloading ESO and know I want to be a High Elf Sorcerer. I'm overwhelmed by some guides but a lot of them are OLD and outdated. I would like a build to have great DPS so I can survive!

Can someone please help me with a newbie or all purpose (PVE & PVP down the road) guide for a Magicka Sorceror? or point me to a link please.

Lastly, is the Sorcerer pet familar thing recommended to start out with? He seems like he will be a help. I played with one when ESO was new but left the game soon after, so can't remember much about the Clannfear creature.

Don't focus on guides The only important thing, is to choose the right Morphs of abilities. Besides that, there is nothing you could do wrong. Even if you choose the wrong Morphs, you can respec. But you don't want to loose time I suppose.

The familiar is definately recommended. I see most lowlevel/newbie Sorc using the Clannfear Morph. Because it taunts your enemies (you can command your pets to attack, so they take all the aggro) which protects your fragile body very well.
And since pets are EXTREMELY expensive and you have no regeneration and no cost reduction at the beginning, you might indeed want to choose the Clannfear to start with. Because the Volatile Familiar requires more active gameplay, while the Clannfear is rather passive and independant.

The Volatile Familiar requires you to guide it a bit more, so that you can tell him to explode. And after it explodes, you will want to recast it again and there is no way you have enough magicka to effort this at the beginning and it will take a lot of time, until you can actually use the Volatile Familiar how it's supposed to be used.
