Pro tip Regarding Voice Chat on console.

Problem console voice chat is too loud.

Solution.

Click options button.

Scroll down to options.

At the very bottom is an audio slider marked 'player voice'

This is the volume control for all player created voice chat noise.

Ease that sucker back to below half.

( the default for some reason is so loud its almost a distortion effect)

There is a separate slider for NPC voice volume called dialogue volume.

So you might crank that up depending on your social/solo interests.

* optional.
* For thoswho simply want to quest in pure solo bliss, click the slider down to zero.
* Now you can still see the names of people speaking and elect to interact or not.
* The names are color coded.
* Blue is a group mate
* green is a guild mate
* white is area chat
* blurry is an indicator you should see an eye doctor, ;)

Cheers.

I really don't know why the default is so loud.

Do you have a solution for Guild Chat 1 where whatever guild you get put in by default has a guy with a hot mic humming along while he farms Bugloss? I've left guilds before for this reason and very few guilds I know use Guild Chat 1 because there's always that one guy who is in there lighting up but not actually talking to you.

Oh that's simple, you just have to open your mouth and force air from your lungs across your tounge.

    Now here's the tricky part,

You have to shape that air into the sounds that correspond to the words,
'Hey bud, your mic is buzzing. Oh you didn't know because your mic doesn't feed audio created by your mic back into your ears and thus have to rely on others to occasionally alert you to a short in your mic cord? No prob. We've all been there.

Hey you need any ingots? I will trade for some of that bugloss. Etc.'

    ;)

No a lot of that irritation stems from the high gain from player voice volume being anything just past half.

Yeah, that's a very good tip indeed.
A guildmate told me a couple weeks ago about this. Before that I kept turning off the voice chat, because I thought it was simply bad quality. Since I could not hear normally anything. Turned out the problem was the player voice volume maxed out as default.

Yeah, I wish they would hot patch the default volume down a notch or two.

I really like voice chat more now.

As long as they are playing Ramstein, Slipknot etc it's fine with me

    Skin,

Thanks for the tip about turning the player voice slider down to about 25%.
    It helped quite a bit.

It is a good suggestion. The only issue I can see is that some are at a normal volume. So it might make those too low.

Many people have an issue with the volume being too loud. Sometimes towns can be a bit much.

I guess you'd have to play it by ear lol.

    Great suggestion.
Also if you happen to own the Sony PS wireless headset in addition to the main volume slider on the rear there is a mix slider control on the front ear piece which allows you to set the voice or game background louder to your preference on the fly.

Is the setting saved so that you don't have to do it on every login? Because right now I have to leave the chat every time I login and I am wondering if bringing the slider down to zero will be continued into the next session.

    Yeah it saves your settings.

Each character has its own set of settings, I think, so you might have to adjust for each toon.

Again I don't recommend a full mute, just ease it back and a couple dogs barking won't be anywhere near the annoyance it is.

    Either way, best of luck.

Thanks i will be muting it completely now! I simply don't find it fun to hear other people or what kinds of animals they have.

Just remember that when you are finished with your immersion, and begin grouping, pvping, and running group dungeons to ease it back up.

Also, it does help to chat with people and make friends so you have a network to draw on when you finally start to do group stuff.

I can't imagine running that stuff with randoms.

There's also an option in the PlayStation dashboard under devices, audio, mic volume.

You can turn your own mic volume down here.

Depending on the amount of constant background noise you have you may want to turn down the sensitivity on your own mic.
