Provisioning hireling is useless

I have all the hirelings for all the crafts and I have them all maxed out. I've noticed that the provisioning hireling is the most useless of them all. I constantly get good stuff from my other hirelings but the provisioning hireling, it's nothing but common materials I get from him. I really feel like I wasted 3 skill points there.

    Odd that's about the only way I get frost mirrim (?spelling)
    Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
    Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
    Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
    Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

    Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
    House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
    Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

    Provisioning has only two kinds of good stuff: purple and gold ingredients. Gold comes only from fishing. Purples come from hirelings and writs. So I'd say hirelings are useful enough.

    Yes, but the problem is that since the hireling is one of only 2 ways to get purple materials, the chance of getting a purple material is extremely low. I'm vet rank 7, I have TONS of recipes, and I still have trouble doing the provisioning writs. I never seem to have the provisioning writ recipe. So it's kind of a pain in the ass.

    One thing to remember is that for the writs, you can use items that someone else made (not drops). So early on when I could not for the life of me find four-eye grog, I would just keep buying a few at a time and hanging onto them.

    I run two accounts; eight characters and I still only have two copies of that darn recipe.
