MOUNTED COMBAT

So last night after a sesion of ESO, a thought just popped into my mind. What about mounted combat... Dont know if this idea was mentioned before, but i think it could be very cool.
So i started thinking about it, there could be an entire skill three revolving it (maybe under alliance section). So 5 skills plus passives to improve your mounted combat potential. Idea is that everyone can use his light attacks form horse back, but without investing in it, that is all you can do. When you start leveling the skill line, you unlock skills(my idea is 2 for melee weapons, 2 for ranged and the last would be some kind of utility) and passives(exampe- medium/heavy attacks from horse back, can take more dmg before dropping, increase range of your attacks....). So when you have someone who maxed his mounted combat he woud have acces to his light/heavy attacks, he woud be much harder to drop from his horse+ stuff(ofc thinking of balance issues) , and he woud have acces to a skill bar(i was thinking 3 skill max, thus you would be limited on what can you do). The skill would be depending on your weapon tipe, ranged or melee. For example a guy with a bow can use 2 of the ranged abilities plus the third slot would be as i call it "wild card", where you place any skill from the weapon three you are using (snipe for a bow user, or wrecking blow for 2H). Imagine wielding your 2H sword, charging on your mount at the enemy, trampeling them(idea for a melee skill), and the wrecking blow in the face. Or bow wielding, kiting enemyes from long range with a snipe on wild card slot, or scorched earth maybe. Just imagine 10-20 dudes on horse backs with bows raining hell upon enemyes from a far, or bunch of tanky dudes charging in bunch of enemyes, trampeling them, breaking their lines and stuff... I mean i have milions of scenarios of epic cyro battles if this could be implemented, ofc with balance isue as a priority.
There could be also addition of mount gear (1 maybe 2 pcs), for example melee guy would like some heavy scales on his horse so he can take more dmg, ranged dude would want his horse as fast as possible so he would have some kind of light wait saddle, or something. Then you could dye your horse gear, so we wouldnt have 6 exactly same mounts running across Tamriel. Also sets for improving mounted combat, but i think i could go on for days with ideas...

Im just wandering what you guys think, could it be done, would you try it out if it was implemented? I dont know, i think it could bring a whole another dimenson in pvp combat, and a lot of epicness!!!!

They done this in LOTRO with its own skill tree. A novelty at best.

On a side note, just heard they're having server mergers.

Mounted combat would be a neat thing... If they can do it right. And I am not only thinking of horses, lances and such, but also of multi-player mounts - war chariots, with one driver and one archer or mage for example...

And if they manage to code all that... maybe someday we might even get naval combat! Multi-player warships, one helmsman, others operating siege weapons or pitching in with ranged attacks, while melee fighters stand ready to repel boarders...
Ah, dream on. But... who knows what the future might bring to ESO?

Next time consider using the search function in the top right. This has indeed been discussed before. There are many threads about this very thing. My thread Advanced Mounts Overhaul Concept (which would come up using the "Mounted Combat" search) discusses both Mount Combat and Mounted Combat.

Now on to your specific suggestions. I completely agree that we shouldn't have access to our full ability bar while mounted. In my concept I suggest that while mounted players have access to a mount ability bar that gives the players mount abilities. I could see that swapping over to a player attack skill-bar.

Perhaps we could have additional Mounted Weapon skill trees that are specifically for mounted weapon handling. If we had this, ZOS could have mount specific weapons. Heck... we could even add an additional weapon slot for mounted weapons for players to place weapons like lances and spears and longbo for when they mount up.

I really like the idea of mount equipment. I really think ZOS should allow players to craft Mount Equipment and we could even have separate motifs for mounts which would essentially DOUBLE the armor crafting in game.

I have a companion thread Tangible Mounts Advanced Concept that covers my thoughts on Mount Equipment/Armor.

I like your thoughts though. Hopefully ZOS will someday add these types of features. While we wait, keep those ideas coming!

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.

Absolutely no excuse not to have it.

N64 Ocarina of Time had it.

    Tons of games have it.

Witcher 3 is enormously more complex and graphically detailed than ESO, and yet also has a very detailed horseback combat system.

Edit: I don't want to hear "but witcher 3 is single player", unless you can provide with that a logical assertion as to why that has any bearing on whether or not ESO could or should have mounted combat.

Witcher 3 has swordplay and standing combat, and it's a single player game, and ESO has it.

Mounted combat would be fine I guess, don't think it needs its own skill tree though. On a mount you should be able to use light/heavy attacks, I know additional skills could be added, but should they? I don't personally see the point. There are other skill trees I'd rather see first.

Won't work. Try this, get on your horse, run at full speed towards a Crafting Writ sign and try to hit E to grab the writ as you run past or around the sign.

And not on a slow horse either but one that is at 40 to 60 in speed.

There is no fine control, not anymore anyway. At least not since I got my horse speed up over 30 that is.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

In fact i did it all time when i finishing lvling my horse skills (bags with rest at 60). With speedbuff & shift taping ''e'' its only option to not stop 50m too far. Maby its u rig performance problem that game dont notice your command?
It could be cool system when u charge with lance & must press attack in right tinny moment to get full strengh of devastating hit. Btw lance should have some break chance on impact like in reality:)

Hmmm I don't know. Just think about all the clutter it will cause for the ui and it will be taking the devs time away from adding some actual content to the game, and to top it off jousting does not exist in the TES universe so it will be lore breaking. And the devs already said in numerous occasions they want to stay lore friendly.

So it's a bad idea all around, plus the people wanting jousting is a very small portion of games population, so it would be unfair to change the game based off a few people on a forum.

Well you named 2 single player games that have that option. Secondly the games combat would have to be changed just to add this type of fighting. And thirdly it has to fit with the games lore (which it doesnt) because the devs stated they want to adhere to the lore as much as possible,.

ya they could make the chariots be in with all of the siege weapons. But the naval battle thing would never happen because there are only a couple of small rivers and the one mote around the imperial city that they would have to remake the entire pvp map/area so that they could add a big lake or something for the naval battles.

    No.

Here's why - mounted combat in LotrO was just about the most lame experience in gaming I ever had. They sold it to us with the Rohan expansion and touted it as being this super awesome system where we could fight warbands while mounted, quest while mounted. All it resulted in was more massive lag, more dedicated grind to level legendary bridles (another weapon basically) along with leveling riding skills and combat skills which were only available while on horseback vs your regular skills when on foot.

It was fun --- for about 10 minutes.

Would not want to have that repeated here. Good idea in theory. In an MMO however, it brings way too many issues to content with.
