Dungeon Question

So question about Dungeons. I just hit VR3 and have a friend that just started that is level 12. Is there any downside to running him through some of the lower level dungeons for xp/gear, is it even possible? Someone told me that each of your group members has to be within 4 levels of each other to run a dungeon, is this true?

You can run it aslong as your friend is group leader it will be his lvl you will only get drops from boss and it will be hear for his lvl you will get xp but obviously won't realy dent your xp bar

You can run him through but he won't get experience(though he will get credit for the quests and stuff) unless he's doing any substantial damage(which'd mean you pretty much have to just tank and/or heal and not even sneeze in the direction of those poor lvl 12 mobs).
The thing about 5 levels is in regard to experience/loot, if you're within 5 levels from each other(supposedly not counting vet levels as of some recent patch) you'll both get experience and loot, if you're not, the lower level person won't get it unless he meets a certain damage check. At least that's how it worked last time I tried something like that.
