Imperial Templar Healer?

So I made a Imperial Templar and I don't know how I want to build him. I was hoping to get some input from you guys. I know if I wanted to do healer I should have went with a different race (I was told that race really doesn't matter) , but could Imperial be good at healing? I want to be a healer/tank I just don't what the best build to go for. I want to do Restoration Staff for bar 1 and Sword and Shield for bar 2.
I just don't know what to build.

 Dark Flare (morph of Solar Flare | Dawns Wrath skill line)
 Purifying Ritual (morph of Cleansing Ritual | Restoring Light skill line)
 Retreating Maneuvers (morph of Rapid Maneuvers | Alliance War Assault skill line)
 Blazing Spear (morph of Sun Spear | Aedric Spear skill line)
 Breath of Life (morph of Rushed Ceremony | Restoring Light skill line

Thoughts?

A Templar does not need a Healing Staff to be a Healer. Nice thing about that class. Although a Healing Staff does give other benefits, like Magic Regen on Heavy Attacks, and some other Healing Skills to use. But, my Templar sports two destro staffs and heals just fine.

Question to OP and Nestor too: what kind of content do you (want to) do? PvE or PvP? Solo or group? Progress or casual?

Hey foggyduck,

I have played my Imperial templar since the launch of the game. I have played it as tank, healer and dps and it all works very good. Depending on your build, an other race might have been more optimal but it is not a gamebreaker (far from it). If you want more help and play on pc. feel free to contact me ingame @DonDruid.

Right now I'm just doing PvE with a friend, but I will eventually play PvP with this character.

Hmm ok. I assume you mean questing by PvE with a friend, so no real dungeon healing. For questing basically every build is fine, because the content is not that hard and I find it important to have fun with your build there, even if you are not super effective.

For dungeons you should definitely check out grand healing (1st of resto staff skill line). I find it to be the best and most important healing skill in this game for PvE.

For PvPing your setup looks quite fine, but I would definitely check out steadfast ward (resto staff) and maybe remorph your nova, because I like solar disturbance more for PvP. Also you may want to work the templar execute in there. For low health enemies it is freaking awesome. Does incredibly damage!

I agree with @DschiPeunt . If you are lvling, just have fun and explore the world. You will have no problem with end game content and pvping with a Imperial Templar. If you have problem while lvling just putt all your points into magica and use the magica morph of Puncturing Strikes (In aedric spear tree) and repentance (morph of Restoring aura in Restoring Light tree). Makes all lvling content easy!
