How does Spell Critical work (console)

If I have Magelight on, it says: Spell Critical 45.0%

Does that mean I have a 45% chance of critically striking with any magicka-based ability?

And what is the critical multiplier for it? Is it the same value as Weapon Critical?

To the OP. I'm assuming you mean when you have mage light toggled on, your character sheet shows you at 45% critical. If so, then you should have a 45% chance to get a critical with ANY spell or attack that scales off of Max Magicka. This include all resto staff heals, destruction staff attacks and abilities and magicka based ultimates like meteor and overload.

HOWEVER, if you look at the public test server patch notes, it appears that Magelight is causing your character sheet to show a much bigger crit bonus than what it is actually giving you and also what is intended. 1% crit should be equal to 206 critical rating. As such, magelight is really only giving you a 10% buff to spell crit, not the 20% increase your character sheet is showing.

Yes. Although Magelight only gives a 10% boost. I think Inner Light (the Morph) shows the right amount of additional Critical. So, you can look at your character sheet without it on, see what the crit amount is, then add 10 to that figure.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Radiant magelight shows the right amount too.

If any ultimate is critting off only spell critical, that is a bug and should be reported. Ultimates should scale their damage off the higher of max magicka/spell damage or max stamina/weapon damage and crit off the higher of spell crit/weapon crit. Ultimates are not magicka or stamina based and should adjust to the player's build.

When the game first came out, almost all ultimates scaled off max magicka/spell damage/spell crit, which made them do pathetic damage for stamina builds. The whole game was originally designed with the intention that magicka would be everyone's main resource, with all class skills using magicka, etc. Stamina was a support resource. That was changed, in fits and starts but mostly with Update 6 back in March, to allow you to base a character around magicka or stamina and be effective in both ways.

Nonetheless, there may still be some artifacts of the old days buried in the code. Meteor definitely should not be tied to spell crit. Overload is a bit of anomaly. It sits on top of basic weapon light/heavy attacks and could crit based on the weapon choice (spell crit if a staff, weapon crit if Bow/2H/1H/DW) or could crit based on higher of spell crit/weapon crit. I don't know. Either would be acceptable if you ask me. A stam sorc with dual wield using Overload but critting off spell crit would not be acceptable.

Fair response. I'm a magicka sorc so my spell damage, max magicka and spell crit far outshine my stam/weapon dmg/weapon crit. That's probably why I see all my ulti's scale to my magic attributes. An empowered meteor (entropy + empower) does upwards of 50k if you stand in the AoE, with a 16k initial hit. Nasty stuff.
