Where should I be investing my points attribute points as a nightblade? Magicka or stamina? Also what are the best skills to have?
Thank you in advance.
It's almost impossible to give a good answer, because it depends on your prefered playstyle.
Do you play mostly solo? Then a stamina build would be a good option, because most solo pve high dps/high burst damage skills are later morphed to take advantage of stamina.
But if you're mided towards pvp and wanting to do AOE attacks, healing of others or wanting to become a vampire, magicka seems like the route to go.
I assume you're still leveling a rather new NB? In the beginning you can effectively put a couple of points into magicka because most offensive and defensive skills rely mostly on this. For the first 15 levels I had great succes with distributing evenly between health/magicka/stamina.
Maybe it'll help wit a little inspiration. Mind you, this setup is my vet 1 NB,
I play dual wielding only. I only use one skill bar for combat, the other is more utility (soul catching).
I craft all gear myself, 2 heavy armour (helmet and gauntlets) and my dual weapons with the 'death wind' for a lot of extra stamina and stamina regeneration
I craft 5 medium armour with 'night's silence' for extra health and armor. Being a stealthy character, this allows me to move about in stealth at running speed, the gameplay impact is incredible for this build.
I mix my crafting up with 'reinforced' x 5 and 'well-fitted' x 2 traits and 5/1/1 stamina/health/magicka glyphs.
Magica/health/stamina distribution is 5/22/23
My ultimate is death stroke -> soul harvest, it's simply great, if you remember to slash your enemies once it'll be up almost once per enemy.
Skills:
I use strife -> swallow soul for health regen when fighting from 2 enemies or more (this also add to health recieved from all sources. It's actually a good ranged attack!
Reapers mark is excellent when things get hairy or you're fighting mixed enemies melee + ranged, I usually cast reapers mark on the melee that I'm focusing on so that when he's down, my health is back in full. The debuff is extremely good, and helps to mitigate boss effectivenes towards you.
When sh.. hits the fan or when moving into a better position, I have the shadow -> dark cloak ready, this gets me out of trouble, cancelling DOTs and with the right passives, adds about 40% physical and spell resistance for up to 6 seconds!
This is really great with the night silence armor bonus
Combat skills are teleport strike -> ambush, combined with stealth or invisibility will do massive damage (from behind) and will stun the enemy for 4 seconds with the right passives.
The next attack will do more damage (throw in ultimate here)
my combat 'bread and butter' is flurry -> rapid strikes, which reaps enemies in all forms for a small stamina cost (high dps when morphed, and excellent range that makes it viable even when standing just outside most boss AOE attacks). With a stamina build this is almost infinitely spammable and very good for pve. Some believe it's less than ideal for pvp and avoids this, I don't really pvp so don't know, but with all the DW passives it wreaks havoc in pve.
Most attacks start from stealth with reapers mark, then ambush from stealth with the ultimate for follow up, the reapers mark and rapid strikes, if I run out of stamina, I use heavy strikes and the ultimate until it regens sufficiently.
Dropped skills that might get into rotation:
I did use the morphed killers blade, but don't have bar space for it, and it's redundant with this build. Dps is too low and stamina cost too high
Rapid strikes do more or less the same thing faster.
Blur; 30% dodge chance and some buffs, meant micromanaging my magicka in longer fights.
Instead I use reapers mark more often, and buff myself with dark cloak.
AOE attacks seem redundant, with a good health/stamina build and 'reinforced' armour, I'm not too squishy, and using reapers mark together with the high dps of rapid strikes/heavy attacks keep my health up.
I started out as a stamina nb and enjoyed the burst dps and the fun shadowy gameplay. At later levels, though, I found I couldn't solo as much as I wanted to (public dungeons/world bosses). At around lvl 45 I respecced to magicka and play a caster type. My dps is still decent, but now I have survivability out the wazoo so it doesn't matter how quickly I burst down my enemies. If you want I can give you my build advice, but I advise that you play around and try things out on your own.
