i guess i should start by saying that this thread is just a collection of thoughts. well... it's already stated in the title... never mind. first i'd like to discuss the DLC. on second thought, i'll discuss the base game patch first. i'll try to keep it short and sweet.
Vet Rank 16
regarding the veteran rank increase to 16. i think vet ranks are kind of blown up. one million exp per vet rank? even 750k is pushing it for me. i understand this is more of a progression based feature. in terms of progression, i'd say the champion point system was quite brilliant, though it could use some tweaking. the extremity of vet ranks is pushing it. i feel like this game is just barely scratching the surface of its potential. what the game needs is not more endless layers of progression. what the game needs is to offer things for players to do.
like... me personally, when i first hit v1 on my nightblade. at that time i had already done all of the base dungeons and questing was starting to become redundant. my pc isn't the best, so pvp wasn't as great as it would be on a better pc. i'd already pretty much mastered the justice system and waiting for it to be updated. so what's left for me to do? vet dungeons and grinding? sure, then what after i hit v14? no point grinding anymore. just vet dungeons?
all i'm saying is that i know this game has the potential to offer a lot more than other mmos can. something that's not pure character progression. i mean sure, when it comes to an mmo, character progression is where it's at, but happens like 3-4 years down the line when all players are vet rank 16 on their main and all of their alts, and we have a new player now who wants to run a dungeon at lvl 14. how will that player find a group when everyone else is v16? or maybe by then we will have vr30?
anyway, that's beside the point. what we players need is more fun things to do while playing. the justice system is a great example of that. i wouldn't really count it yet since it needs to be updated, but it's a way to ensure players have something they can keep doing for fun and profit. i like the idea of being able to sneak around and steal good stuff for profit whenever i want. it would be awesome if they keep building on this system.
i wouldn't count dungeons for this. it's kind of grindy. maybe some dungeons that aren't grindy and serious? by the time you hit v1, vet dungeons are a bit more important than normal dungeons. the problem is that most players are serious to a degree when it comes to vet dungeons. so yea, players are part of the problem too. not just the seriousness either. sometimes i try to run vet dungeons with v14s (i'm below v14). these guys just go on charging without giving a damn to the team. it's like "v14: screw this team, i'm just going to charge through because i'm a badass v14 and i'm better than everyone here.". and when they die they want to blame the group for being noob and then quit the group. even if they don't die, it just makes the experience bad for other players.
Random thoughts regarding base patch
i like the decrease in vet rank exp levels and all the increasing in exp gain from dungeons, quests and craglorn. again, if progression is going to be increased and sped up, the game itself needs to have more to offer too for players. not just players who are late in their character progression, but for all players. okay think for example a player reaches 14 and completes every quest and objective in the game. they don't want to go to pvp or grind dungeons. then what?
DLC
now let's discuss the dlc. it would strike me as odd that there will be a limited amount of players enjoying the dlc of a game with the word "unlimited" in its subtitle, but i'm sure the dlc will be released free sometime in the future. there really isn't much i have to say other than that.
