Since gathering isn't separate from crafting, how about a few limits on gathering?

Crafting was one of the things I really looked forward to. Everybody likes different things about MMOs, and one thing I enjoy is going out, gathering materials and then making things with them. This worked well in the early areas, but upon reaching Bangkorai I discovered the army of level 20 lootbots who make endless rounds of every spawn point and then back to get them the moment they respawn. Whether they are gold farmers or trying to cheese level crafting is irrelevant - they obviously cannot use the materials they are gathering and are actively denying them to players who could and would use them to make gear they could use right then.

Anyway, why not make it so you can only, for instance, mine ebony if you can wear the gear it makes? Or at least the requirment that you have the blacksmithing skill to make ebony items.

umm ... not enough gathering nodes for you ?

    That's a problem

your could probably skip that and use V level gear when you hit V1 .. shouldn't take you long to get past 40+
Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.

Report them with the in-game tool. Apparently that's how ZOS wants us to deal with the problem. I have to say, I've played many hundreds of hours and haven't seen botting like you describe often. In the early days with bots flying thru the air it was different but ZOS has fixed those problems. And they claim they'll look at reports of botting now just as seriously. So, report them.

The problem I can see with this idea is for people like me, I have one crafter character and some alts, I use the crafter to make gear for my alts (as well as for friends) and I use my alts to gather appropriate level materials (since they are questing in the areas where those materials can be found) so my crafter can make appropriate level gear for them. Your idea would mean that players with lower level alts couldn't gather materials for their crafter characters to use to make those alts gear, which would be most inconvenient to say the least.

Personally I think they're may just be too many nodes, since I find myself stopping every 10 seconds because I've spotted another one, I know it's a terrible habit but I just can't help myself.

yeah, its annoying when you just have to stop and pick a node instead of interrupting the V10-14 grind .. I've found myself doing it a lot, and it uses up a bag slot too !!

I think it would be good if you had to invest research in crafting a specific material before you had the experience to mine or gather it.

No. I have a pile of alts as I get easily bored playing the same char over and over. What you suggest would mean that my alts could not gather materials while they are out questing, and I do not believe that situation is sustainable.

Gathering materials in ESO simply isn't a problem. There's no lack. I'm truly unsympathetic.

would be nice to see botters get the boot though. If they can't be bothered to actively play they shouldn't be able to get away with it whether it's for materials or xp.

I never ever have encountered any trouble finding materials. Be it now or when I started playing, I always found enough to keep me happy. Yeah, sometimes the grazers are out in force, and snatch up nodes from under your nose... but they can't be everywhere, and there's always some node in some corner to keep you getting yours.

That stated, see a presumed bot, whisper and talk to verify, and if they can't give you some "oh, no, I am human, honest" answer by the third try, report them and let the powers that be take a look at their actions. With the game BtP and not FtP, getting your account locked because you couldn't resist botting is actually a vaild threat after all (not like FtP games where the botters, spammers, goldtraders and griefers just make another throwaway account within five minutes of running afoul of the game administration...)

I haven't come across any issues with materials, I pick up any I see, I don't want to be limited by how much I can collect, I do not make any money from making items as they are for my guild mates, I picked Wood working, another picked Enchanting etc, we all help each other out with whatever we need.
