IC, DK Magicka Tank still valid?

So just went into the my first IC grp dungeon the IC Sewers (not the white gold one). Used my DK magicka tank w/o any changes (mid-tier gear equipped, my best one didn't copy over for some reason) and group composition was (DK tank, DK healer, 2 sorc dps) We got straight molly-wopped by the 1st boss, the zombie. The kiss of death was his moving conal attack (flurry) which can eat thru a 25k barrier, plus my 28k physical resistance & 28k HP. Biggest issue I saw was stamina regen. I could dodge roll around for a bit ( about 2 flurries) and survive the 3rd flurry w/ magma but after that point, done w/ the boss @ about 70% of his 2 million health. I know right off the bat there are some changes I can make to up my survivability but the issue as I see it is it seems like u NEED a templar in grp for shards. I understand this may change as my CP grows (280 currently) and I adjust to the newness... but am curious to see what other people have been doing and if anyone has managed to beat this boss w/o a templar in grp.

FYI, highest score in vDSA with this toon tanking was 8700, and have tanked everything else in the game except SO. I have a solid grasp of the tanking mechanics as they have been. I am enjoying the thought of a new challenge but don't want to be pigeon holed into a build (individual or grp). Any advice is appreciated.

many have predicted that the need for templars will rise by a lot across the board.

agreed and i can see that @Pman85 , what I am most curious about is how successful ppl have been w/o a templar in grp using shards and if any other magicka tanks have been able to have success in the new grp dungeons.
