How do I get the spring trap to work for harpies?

There is an activate button to use when a harpie is weakened, but it doesn't seem to do anything?
Have a similar problem getting another quest item to do something (use some kind of stone when the monster is 25% of health so I can capture it), even though there's an activate button. Doesn't do anything.

X should show up when their health is low enough .. you also need to be in range, and in the right area for it to work - check your map in case you are attacking harpies outside the limited quest zone.

If you are doing everything right, it may well be corrupted data on your client.
Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.

Thanks. I have the amulet to spot werewolves too tonite. I see that when I press activate--in the Quest list of items--, even though I'm within the werewolf zone, it says "out of range". I don't see any way to activate it otherwise so that I can tell who's a werewolf and who's not?

I even tried moving back from the harpies when they're just about dead so I would absolutely kill them, and I'm still not getting an X. I did get that when I had to put out the fires--when I got close with the bucket of water, the x appeared and I could put out the fires. But that's the only time I've seen a quest item activate the X on my screen.

    Keeping trying.... Thanks again.

Ok I've found what's wrong. I've been killing with the Aedric spear (on the skill tree). The X doesn't come up with the Aedric spear for some reason. When I use the axe, then it comes up after a few hits.
    Thanks for the help.
