I'm really struggling to make a unique character... they all look the same in the face... Others who obviously struggle look similar to my characters also, I lack knowledge. Help?

One of the things I do when creating alts (I have made lots of them...) is to use the "random" feature. I click through a series of looks until I find one that looks really weird but appealing to me for some set of reasons... then I adjust this or that on it to get it exactly where I want. None of my chars look the same :)

Well fundamentally you'll always look like your base race, there isn't much you can do about that, they have certain features, however adjusting things little by little you can probably find something you like that is different than what most people use. Also as Soulshine said the random feature can also be helpful to find features you may not have considered, and then you can work off of that.

lol i made all my characters look the same body and face but with different hair/eye color and accessories.

so i have quadruplet dark elf females :D that the only way to tell them apart is by hair color and eye color and obviously class :P

    and i like it! :D

Same face? I usually don't stop to stare at other players but now I wonder if they share the same faces as my characters.
I just posted pics in the show your character thread that I'd like to quote here so you can tell me if you've seen these faces before (hope not unless they were me ha)

With the limited amount of options, and the sheer number of players and characters in ESO, you are never going to have a special snowflake one-of-a-kind character. The only person in the entire game that cares or is even going to notice how your character looks, is you.

My character created specifically to be a vampire. Modelled on Nosferatu and the warlocks of Games of Thrones.

His face and body decoration is the major burn scarring to reflect his fear of fire ... and no, I don't use fire resists to keep me on my toes in game.

Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.

I was going to say I don't have this problem, but actually I have no idea if I do or not.

I usually start creating characters in my head long before I even touch the character creator. I'll use my reason for making a new character as a starting point and then add aspects to it, both practical things like their build and cosmetic things and stuff that's not in the game at all like the backstory I invent for them. So by the time I actually make them I have a pretty clear idea of what I'm going to choose - definitely the race, gender, alliance and name, and at least a vague idea of their appearance.

There's some things I'll only decide as I'm making them, like whether to add scars, tattoos and accessories (I usually can't remember all the options so it's a matter of clicking through and asking myself if they suit the character), but even then it's simply a matter of matching them to the idea in my head.

But I don't actually know how unique the resulting characters are. They all look different from each other because they're different races, but I've never looked to see if they look like other people's characters. To me they simply look like the person they are, and if they look like someone else that's just a coincidence. (A bit like when people would ask if me and my friend Jo were sisters, absolutely no relation but apparently we looked similar.)

If you're looking for a simpler solution however I recommend experimenting with the sliders to see how much you can customise them, or picking a distinctive hairstyle/accessory or something. For example my Imperial's most distinctive feature is his eye-patch, I don't see many players using that so I imagine if anything makes him stand out it's that.

the "problem" if you can call it that is that people tend to make generically pretty characters. good face shape, smiling, plain hair, etc. sure it looks okay but its a little boring.

my advice is to go through the hair, or facial features (scars, eye patch, make up, jewelry, beard, whatever) and find something you like to style a character around. once you decide "oh this character has a scar on his face" it starts to influence the overall design of the character. I tend to make stylized characters, they can still be pretty (and they are) but tend to be more memorable.

another thing is that not all sliders are created equal. just because wide cheekbones looks good on one race does not mean it will on another. especially the base triangle sliders at the top.

ha I usually give serious names but I was making a crafstman character so I thought what's a fun crafting sounding name that fits and Orc then boom Bog the Builder was born. I was originally going to go with an Argonian called Crafts-All-Crap :p
