Fishing bugged? PS4

I was fishing in a river in Reaper's March and I was using Insect Parts. I caught 3 fish and then I got used bait. I was really confused so I took interpretation into consideration. Was it too big to be a river? Tried guts. Nope. Was it Foul Water? Crawlers didn't work. It couldn't possibly be an ocean, it was landlocked. Got 4 fish with worms then I got used bait again. I thought it was fixed and tried insect parts again. Still used bait.

Anyone else experiencing this problem? Is there a way for me to fix it or will it go away with time?

If you get a used bait and don't take it, the next thing you catch will be that used bait again. So always take the used bait if you catch it, you can destroy it later.

I am not sure which are you are talking about in Reaper's March but I do know there are some areas that look like it might be part of a lake, but is actually considered river or foul.

So if you got a used bait right after switching from insect to guts that could be why.

Also the fish you catch will be an indicator as to what water type.

Dhufish and Longfin = Ocean
River Betty and Salmon = River
Silverside Perch and Spadetail = Lake
Slaughterfish and Trodh = Foul Water

So if you are not sure what it is, when you catch the first fish it should let you know. Make sure you have lots of space in your inventory in case you catch Wet Gunny sacks. When you are going for the fishing achievements those things can take up your inventory space rather quickly.

I was getting Spadetails but I stopped catching them with guts and caught a few with ocean bait and then caught nothing at all.

You can use the other baits with a greatly reduced chance to get a fish when you do.

If you use the right bait, you pretty much have a 100% chance to land a fish.

But always take the Used Bait, don't leave it on the hook.
