Should a magicka-based NB use light armor?

A DW NB that will mostly be using magicka abilities. Should I still be using medium armor, or should I switch to light? Since we can't really alter our outfit appearance, I really don't like to mix armor types, because it looks awful. Thanks.

Magicka bases attacks deal more damage if you wear light armor, plus it benefits your magicka sustain.
DW attacks are stamina based so dont use them on a magicka build.
Its useful to have DW on a magicka build because it increases your spell damage but simply use class skills for damage abilities.

Until all your armor skill lines reach level 50 I would suggest wearing 5x light 1x heavy (chest) 1x medium (legs)

Actually if you are worried about appearances, than use 5light ( chest, head, shoulders, belt and gloves) while using medium pants and heavy feet. That will not affect the appearance much and you still benefit from having to level all armor types.

Though I disagree with mixing armor types as you do get really cool looking armor mixes on later levels.

Eso fashion has some good combinations of armor.

The big issue is the the 5 piece light bonus passives. You need 5 pieces for the crit and penetration bonus which are both very nice for a magicka build not to mention that the per piece regen bonus helps a lot.

I have tried to make Stygian (medium armor) work with 1.6 for a magicka nb bit have found that the 20% damage buff for the 5 piece bonus just can't compensate for the loss of the light armor passives. I REALLY HOPE THEY FIX THIS in IC since it is obviously an oversight when they tried to update all their sets....sort of how burning spell weave was borked.

Spell power is also going to be an issue if you don't wear enough light armor. Spell power bonuses go with light armors for the most part. Some heavy armor exceptions and stygian but they are very rare. If you wear 4 piece martial you get a nice spell power boost and a lot of magicka glass cannons will use martial knowledge.

Light armor does not boost spell power, you can replace martial knowledge with storm knight and get the same amount of spell power for example. Light armor does benefit magicka sustain greatly plus some spell penetration/crit.
