I had an idea for a future development of ESO that I think would increase both its fun and profitability. Nice combination if I am right.
So here is the problem as I see it.
Optimal end game gear is pretty standard, so in the end almost everyone ends up wearing nearly the same gear. (How many times have you zoned into a pledge instance to see 3 players with Martial knowledge shoulders, gloves, and pants). Additionally, many of the of the dropped end game gear pieces have junk traits (e.g., exploration, sturdy, etc.).
So here is my suggestion that addresses both of these issues and increases synergy between crafting and questing. Create an additional tier of crafting that allows players to re-trait existing gear. The component to complete this crafting task could be rare (see crown store item) and it would increase investment in unlocking higher level crafting and it would give people more things to work on to max out characters.
Additionally, and I think this one is really needed, create the possibility for people to reskin existing gear to look like any motif they have. We could all work toward the same end game gear, but at least we could customize our look. Again the crafting material to unlock reskinning could be rare (crown store item), but would likely be highly prized. This would also increase synergy between crafting and questing.
What do you guys think?
PS I would add that depending on how item traits and esthetics are coded this could be an easy change to implement in terms of development. I don't know what the data looks like so that may or may not be the case.
