What exactly causes a keep to show up as under attack?

thewizard-ofcod
Me and a friend were attacking a keep with two trebuchets each, no reinforcements turned up and the keep did not change on the map to show it was under attack until we started attacking the inner postern wall, when we tried this again the keep icon on the map changed to show it was under attack whilst we were half way through the outside wall, not sure if my friend started a fight with the patrolling guards but either way need an explanation as to what exactly causes a keep to show up as under attack so I can avoid alerting enemies in the future, not fun busting your way through a farm and a keep with 4 people killing all the guards along the way just to get swarmed on the second flag inside the keep at the last minute.
We've successfully completed this once so far but hope to be more successful with the right knowledge.

When a wall (any wall, outside or inside) drop below 50% health, the keep is considered under attack.
For a resource, I don't know, I think it's when the flag is below 50% (at this moment the resource is already lost most of the time).

Not quite. It's a combination of damage and time.

You can have the outer wall (or inner for that matter) breached without the keep showing as 'under attack'.

Yes, because the game don't show every information every minute. It show if the keep is under attack if an wall is at 50% or below when he refresh all the campaign's minor information (UA, recent fight, possessions…). If you are fast and lucky, you can breach outer and inner before the "under attack" information.

Ok so really it's just a matter of pure luck at taking the walls down just as the information thingy majingy refreshes itself and finishing before it refreshes again.

    Thanks for the info

Or going by sir andys information I assume that if I take more time taking the wall down ( ie. Less trebuchets attacking at once) I should be able to avoid detection so to speak.
Both sound like very plausible mechanics for how this may work, I'll try a few experiments and see what kind of results I get and I'll post them here.

Once again thanks for any input on this subject

I think the best thing to do since it's currently a wait and see kind of game is look for key give always. A prime example is when you see your keep and the enemy owns 2 out of the 3 resources or if you were looking at your map and one of the keeps resources just got taken away; that usually means an attack is coming on to the keep momentarily (at least I translate it that way).

Addition: Also I believe siege equipment usage by the enemy appears if you hover over your keep, regardless if it's under attack or not.

If a wall is down and the Keep isn't under attack - all you have to do is hit the broken wall once and the keep will go under attack. But if you're hitting a fully healed wall with 2 guys it will take some time. My advice - look all the way around for a wall on the lowest health and hit that, it makes a huge difference. a fully healed wall can take 5-10 siege weps 3-5 minutes to make under attack.
