I didn't mess with guild traders until about 4 days ago; it is slightly tedious, but you will find a ton to purchase for reasonable prices. Just hit the spots that have 3-5 traders to start, and search for crafting-provisioning-recipes.

You want recipes? Do the Provisioning Crafting Writs. I have never seen so many Blues and Purples as I do when doing the writs. I started out with 3 Alts doing L1 Writs (they take about 2 minutes each once you have the food/drinks bought or made). Then once i found all the recipes, I moved them up to L2 and so on.

All 8 of my characters know how to make Nut Brown Ale (and Syrah Surille Wine and Lemon Flower Matze and Golden Lager etc) and all those recipes came from writs.

You get a recipe in each writ reward. And, you get enough mats that I make about 4000 to 8000 gold a week just selling excess ingredients, and this is with me keeping a 200 stack of everything on an alt, and a sub 200 stack of everything in the bank.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

PakKat "Everything was going well, until I died"
Gary Gravestink "I am glad you died, I needed the help"

I must have had the most rotten luck, because I've gotten the same 2 or 3 recipes from my provisioning, and on top of that they were recipes I already had, sometimes multiple extras sitting around in the bank even! I am so tired of looting ships and inns and banks; I have all of the blue motifs but one already for my main, plus 5 of them for my second character, still have 4 more extras in my bank and I've sold 2 already. Wouldn't have expected blue motifs to be easier to get than the 6 recipes needed for level 1 writs.
