[POLL] Changes to PVP

With the amount of bickering back and forth about Imperial City DLC it is pretty clear the divide between PVE and PVP isn't going anywhere anytime soon. As a PVE player I do feel for the PVP population regarding an overall lack of content. As such I propose a change in how the content is presented.

Have each faction change start point from level 5 to 15 area to the beginning 1 to 5 zones, once players are done with mission line they are given a one time choice PVE or PVP. Once they choose they enter into the area with appropriate rules in place. PVE stays the same, PVP changes the storyline missions into invasion quests in opposing factions traveling to an appropriate map, for example Ebonheart first 3 maps deal with AD while last 2 deal with DC, side quests still available in home map for added progression, but each faction could raid opposing factions and also have to defend their home from invaders as well. Cyrodiil would remain the same PVP full war zones, with two options in servers a vanilla and a hardcore. Hardcore and PVP zones could feature player looting of 5 high value inventory and a percentage of gold on hand.

Would this kind of a change be appealing?

The whole point to this time period in the Elder Scrolls, the Interregnum, was the conflict in Cyrodiil over the Ruby Throne. It continued to be this way until Emperor Tiber Septim's reign in the region so much of the land was completely battle-scarred.

It'd also completely break the lore to execute this change to PvP. You have nothing like this in the lore of any Elder Scrolls game during this time period. The war in Cyrodiil and the Soulburst were the major events that happened during this time.

Don't get me wrong; I think certain types of PvP elements, such as the Bounty Hunter implementation for the Justice System, would be much appreciated for most areas of the game. But I don't think alienating the playerbase any further is the way to approach the concept of why the infrastructure is comprised of a megaserver in the first place as well, if that makes any sense.

Doing so would just cause the rift that is already there from people who demand PvE or PvP content to become even larger and more noticeable than it already is.

Not sure how allowing players to act on the other side of the battles that are already in place. Not intending for PVP to somehow win the war, but in much of the maps opposing factions are readily present. Perhaps more direct in Ebonheart, as I have not completed other story lines, but have fought AD in Alkir Area and previous storylines have hinted at a driving force trying to undermine the Covenant.

The content itself - that we know of so far - is fine. Most of the problem unfortunately has been the way Zenimax have advertised/delivered it.

They've been talking about a great expansion coming, and 'just wait' you won't be disappointed, and so on. The player base has been waiting and waiting for new content whilst they worked on and released the game on other platforms. These factors have clearly and justifiably gotten the entire player-base excited for new content. Then, when it actually comes to talking about the expansion, Zenimax only speak about it in little detail, only primarily speak about the PvP component. And - what's worst of all I think - they do not make it clear that this is primarily a PvP expansion from the outset.

If they were honest, open and clear from the beginning, a lot of complaints/disappoints from the player base voiced on these forums and elsewhere simply would not have materialized. It's very unfortunate, but the marketing thus far has been exceptionally poor on comparison to how other MMO companies deliver news.

    Stop right there.

The one truly great thing about Elder Scrolls series is that you can play as you want to, go anywhere, do anything. That and the lore is what sets The Elder Scrolls apart from other leading companies such as bioware.

I might want to PvE one day & then PvP another. That would be my choice.

Fair enough, though I did leave Cyrodil as is, though with an optional hardcore server. This idea is more about giving PVP players more of a balance of gameplay to allow them to play how they want. As a PVE player I would prefer to not have PVP forced on me, and for it to be a choice. And many seem to ignore the pvp players complaint of having to play pve to progress quicker. Again just an ideal its doubtful at this stage that these changes could happen, just wanted to know how others felt
