Guilds & Voice chat

I tend to mostly play solo because of my work hours but have recently decided if I really want to get the most out of ESO I should join a guild. While looking through the guild recruitment threads, I've noticed many insist on using voice chat software such as Ventrilo or Teamspeak.
My computer, far from being a gamer's wetdream, has above average specs and has no difficulty running ESO. But... I am concerned the simultaneous use of chat software will become a problem for me. Also, the only mic input I have is my via my webcam.
If someone could please explain how this voice chat stuff works, and what if any equipment I must have, I would be very grateful.
And yes, I am a technical dinosaur cos I mostly solo
