Ancient Elf Crafting

Hello everyone !

I was really happy cos I got an Ancient Elf motif book so I thought I'd be able to start crating Ancient Elf armor & weapons,, but when I try to learn ("use") this book, I got an error message saying that I either already know this motif, or that I need to be at least lv.8 in a Crafting profession...
The problem is, I don't know this motif yet, and I'm lv.8 in Blacksmith, so ... is this a bug or am I missing something ?

And also, it seems what we need Palladium to craft Ancient Elf, do you know where I can find this, as the Blacksmiths in towns don't seem to sell it like they sell Obsidian and things like that ?

The first passive for Blacksmithing is something like 'Metalworking' which allows you to craft higher level armours. That goes all the way up to Metalworking 9, which allows for late-Veteran Rank items.

You need to have Metalworking at level 8 to be able to use the motif. Or level 8 Woodworking passive, or level 8 Tailoring passive.

Also Palladium is found in Veteran zones, and Ancient Elf drops occur in the wild which you can then deconstruct for Palladium.

Ah damn ... well that makes sense indeed, as it's supposed to be "Ancient" it's not supposed to be that easy I guess

I've gotten some Palladium while deconstructing level 30+ gear. Very rare though.

Well, I still have a long way to go before being able to craft this, but, just out of curiosity, is there any other way to get some Palladium ?
Guild Stores or something maybe ?

You can find crafting style materials on guild stores sometimes, yes. They're not usually overly expensive (though the copper, palladium, daedra hearts, etc. are pricier than the rest).

@dss the palladium you got from deconstructing gear probably meant that gear was part of a dropped set. Some dropped sets use the ancient elf style.

Oh and I just saw that if we buy this Motif in the Crown Store, it's not the exact same one and we can start crafting it from lv.1 ... but I guess even in the Crown Store it doesn't come with Palladium, so one way or another we still have to wait

You're right, the crown store motif lets you craft right away, palladium is for sale at most trader guild on-off, but ridicously overpriced ar between 2000-5000 gold a piece (on consoles).
I won't support this kind of crazy prices, but they're comming down, I bought a batch of 13 for 13.000 gold, so I'm pretty set up.
If your crafting skills a good enough, you can basically re-use any palladium piece when you dismantle it.
