Finding higher level materials

Do they start popping up when you get to a high enough level to use them?

Or is it based on the region you are looking in?

For example - I'm level 14 and I'm still only finding basic materials (iron ore, maple, etc)

You will start seeing the next level of materials when you are in the next zone or Zone 2.

Now, some containers will give you materials based on your Material Passive. Like Hireling Emails or Water Bags for example.

They are linked to the zone. It doesn't matter what level you are, if you go back to a zone it will still always have the same materials.

For this reason, it's best to level up your crafts as you progress through zones. Otherwise you find yourself needing materials from hostile zones or, if you leave crafting until you've levelled up, having to go back to starter zones to find low level materials.

Thanks guys! Is there a map that shows what level each zone is?

I'm trying to keep my skills on par with my level, so far it hasn't been a problem but I'll need to find higher level stuff soon to keep up

You don't raise the crafting skills by making stuff. The Inspiration you get from making things is nothing. Thankfully or there would be no mats in the world. You get the best Inspiration gains from breaking things down, namely loot from mobs. So, you need no materials to level equipment crafting, and in fact, you gain materials from leveling your crafting.

I have found that if I sell enough loot to pay for my repairs, research what i need to research for traits, and break down the rest, equipment crafting will tend to keep up with your character.

Please don't forget about learning traits while leveling your crafting, it is why your becoming a crafter.

Thanks! Yeah I've been stealing and deconstructing as much as possible as it seems to level me faster. I've been researching every trait I can, and I've got the two slots on black smithing, clothing and woodworking so I can speed up the process since the times are now getting longer to research. Just started getting higher level materials in the second zone!
