Hirelings - huge waste of points?

Fizzmopper
So I have 2/3 in Blacksmithing, 2/3 in Clothing, and 2/3 in Provisioning for about 2 weeks now.

So far the best I have gotten 1-2 blue tempers in blacksmithing and clothing, and in provisioning the BEST I've gotten is 15x coffee and 15x tomatoes wow!!

Last night I put a 3rd point into provisioning just to see if this helps... I don't understand how I am supposed to make any of these epic food/drinks, and why even bother if I can only make 3 of each one (if I max that passive as well) with a single epic crafting mats, of which I have yet to receive in 2 weeks? That gives me or my buddies 6 hrs of the food, whereas I can just make many blue recipes much easier and in much greater quantity.

Also - I think it is seriously weaksauce that you need to log in every 24 hrs otherwise your hirelings don't send you anything. They really should stack if you go away from your console for 2 days, when you come back you should have 2 packages in your mail.

In the voice of Job, "Come on!" Hirelings really need to be improved! I saw another post from March showing that they were nerfed HARD. Please un-nerf them!

The secret to hirelings is to have a lot of them. Otherwise the stuff you get just seems to trickle in. Well, it does trickle in. I have had Hirelings on 6 characters for more than a year and am I just now at the point where I can use Purple Tempers and not feel like I am giving up a precious resource.

Pretty sure you need 3 for Epic mats, if not having 3 will make it a lot easier to find because of the improved chances and you get it twice a day.

Also you don't get 1 at a time, i normally get 4-6. which is enough to make 16-24 (of course you max extra portion passives)

I have every character level 50, both a magicka and stamina version.

RIP my effort to get 5x v16 characters...

Since they gimped gold temper chance on hirelings, the only hireling I personally consider to be worth the points is provisioning. With 3 points invested and the crafting writs, I manage to earn more purple ingredients than I spend consistently.

That said, the gain rate of gold tempers was much to big on 8 chars with 3/3 hirelings on all crafts. The nerf was okay.

Man, I got piles of skill points I haven't even used.
Really hard to call the hirelings a waste when I'm sitting on a surplus.

Hirelings are sweet! The key is that you have to have a high level in that crafting category as well.. Like, if you're level 9 in woodworking, your hireling sends you better stuff/materials. I have gotten Daedra hearts, Palladium, yellow resins, etc. Hang in there!

I have not received a single gold mat on any of my 3/3 hirelings since the last nerf. Can anyone confirm that they have receive gold mats on a hireling since the nerf? I do have lots of purples though.

I find the two most useful Hirelings now that I am playing a "holding pattern" are the Enchanter Hireling and the Provisioner Hireling. Since I'm no longer running around the maps the Enchanter provides me with enough occasional Kura to do writs without running out and the Provisioner gives me additional supply to sell. I don't have an Alchemy Hireling because I never even considered it to be useful. I do have one of each of the Equipment Hirelings but all they do is put more material in my bank which I refine on occasion.

I actually got two Kutas this weekend on my Enchanter, in one day. I have screen shots to prove it because I could not believe it when I saw it.

I think I have gotten one other Kuta from hirelings since 1.6

    As for the other crafts, I get 2 to 4 Gold Tempers a week (6 characters running hirelings, 2 L3's, 4 L2's)

Hirelings are a good *supplement* for a crafter but you get most of your tempers from deconstructing loot.

I have 8 characters with 4 of them having maxed all hirelings and 4 (storage mules) with 2/3 for all hirelings. I get tons of stuff from them per day including a nice chunk of high level tempers.

I'm on PS4, so just started playing. I can see how hirelings are a good long-term plan but right now I only have 2 characters between levels 27-35 and I was hoping one could be my "crafter" while the others just spec into skills. I really don't want to go through the whole crafting process again on multiple characters just to be able to unlock more hirelings, uffff.

I love my hirelings! They send me great supplies daily. I have every crafting line 3/3 with hirelings and I receive purple provisioning ingredients, legendary rosin, tempering alloys, dreugh wax about every 3 days and...

they provide me with much laughter with their stories they include in the mail. I enjoy reading about their adventures and how they came about the supplies they just sent to me. But my main is a master crafter in all the fields, so I enjoy free mats every day.

Its a bit of a chore, but pretty easy. The L1 unlocks pretty low level, decon a few things and you can get that. Then, it only requires a skill of 12 to unlock L2 where you start getting the good stuff. Decon 50 to 80 high level items and you will have that skill level in the craft. You have to decide if you want to get them to 32 for L3, but it can be worth it. See the last email I got:

By the time you can set 3/3 into Hirelings you likely have more points than you know what to do with, that was my experience, so even if you only get 1 gold a week it's one more than you had before.

    Master Merchant

Master Merchant is the most popular one and involves the least work but is also limited to your specific guilds from what I can tell (I haven't been able to work out if it sources data from the Vendor Stalls too).

I also use "Price Tracker" which requires more work but will give you data from the Vendor Stalls that you visit and wait at (It needs to be triggered to record the data). This means that I have alternative data when Master Merchant has no information. If you are serious about selling gear then you would be best off using both.

Really enjoy how they went the extra mile to give the hirelings stories to share in-game.

Adds such charm to the game.
