Is a magicka nightblade still affective?

I am a vet 1 Stam bow/2h (the usual) and I have been playing this build for quit a while. I enjoy the Gank, burst DPS style of this build but lately I've been itching to win 1vX. I've been planning on picking up a 1h shield and dropping my bow, but I was also thinking of going cloth and switching to magicka. I've heard plenty of people saying the magicka build wasn't as affective as it used to be. Is there anything I should know before going towards this direction? I've only started playing since console release so I'm not that familiar with the history of the build.

Soon Cloak will be the most effective PvP mobility/mitigation skill in the game, and a lot of people are already rerolling a magicka Nightblade right now.

Having played it since launch: I'd say that it's more difficult now, but not necessarily less effective. You don't do as much burst on account of nirn (which will be balanced soon), so you have to plan things out with the long con in mind -- but that's the nature of 1vX anyway.

Two main pieces of advice, I think. Plan your skills out in terms of how they'll work together, rather than what they'll do by themselves. Concealed weapon and cloak on the same bar, for example; you might want to figure out a good skill to pair with siphoning attacks, too, for resource gain.

Finally, don't be afraid to play around with different armor combinations! It's possible you'll find all light to be a little low in the defense department, depending on your playstyle. The magicka Nightblade is something of a jack of all trades-- and in a 1vX situation, it really needs to be-- if all light (or even 5) doesn't give you everything you need, don't get too hung up on the 5pc light passives that you end up unsatisfied with your durability! Try everything out that you can.

This is assuming of course that they don't mess it up somehow. It is just as likely in their attempt to make all single target spells no longer de-cloak you, they mess it up and instead have all single target spells de-cloak you AND cloak your opponent.

I like my magicka Vamp NB with destro staff. And as mentioned above, try to plan your skills on how they work toghether

I'm curently using in my main bar

Siphoning Strikes (for sustain)
CW (for mobility in stealth and close range, and armor increase)
Lotus (gap closer)
Destro Clench (Gap opener)
Reaping Mark (reduce armor and MR and more sustain)

U -> clouding swarm


In stealth: Reaping mark + full heavy attack + lotus + clench + basic attacks (while walking to the enemy) or lotus again + CW and light attacks (to recover magicka and stamina)

You can also use RM + FHA + Lotus + Ultimate + CW (to set him Off Balance)+ basic attacks (Ideally light to recover ultimate)

For my second bar, I'm still working, but I realize that the combo Grim Focus + FHA + Impale can do a lot of dmg. Maybe a combination of those 2 and the first bar...

GF + FHA + lotus + clench + LA (while walknig to him) + CW + Impale

I think a stamina version (2 handed) is possible too
