Alts Are Penalized?

I've been on-and-off with this game since the beta, but free-to-play has encouraged me to play a lot more recently. However, I'm usually an alt-aholic in MMOs. Particularly in ESO I'd love to create new characters to play through the other faction's zones, experimenting with new classes and builds at the same time. It seems like the Champion system penalizes that though, and wants me to only use one character?

Once I hit VR, I can earn Champion Points, right? I can then either play through the other factions with the same character to earn those Champion Points and keep up with the rest of the playerbase to remain competitive in Cyrodiil, or I can create an alt to enjoy playing with new classes and skill sets but not earn any Champion Points for my main, meaning my main gets left behind.

Am I not understanding Champion Points correctly? I would LOVE them to be earned regardless of level, so that playing with alts also benefits our main characters, and we can experiment with different classes and builds without thinking "I should be doing this content with my main in order to remain viable in PVP."

if having cp for free on your alt seem a penality to you, then i mess all logic somewhere.

You can earn champion points with veteran characters only, but I think the points you earn are given to all of your characters. (e.g. you have 2 characters, one veteran, one level 10. you earn a point with your veteran character, so both characters get one champion point and they can both spend it on different perks).

Honestly, I feel as though if they didn't allow us to play through the other factions with the same character I'd feel cheated. That'd force me to play through those areas with an entirely new character, which I don't want to do (I don't like making more than one character as it means I'd have to divide my time between them).

As for remaining competitive in Cyrodiil...I wouldn't know as I haven't even touched it yet.

Basically you want to get an ALT to Vet 1 as fast as possible then, cause then you will start earning double Champion Points!

Being able to earn Champion Points for all your Alts present or future is really a great bonus and not something to mistake for a penalty. I understand its more fun to play an Alt in zones you have not visited yet, but that is just the game mechanics as is with ESO.

Some people don't like to make more than 1 character and still want to experience all of Tamriel, as its suppose to be.

My advice is Continue with your main in the 2nd region you visit, and start an alt in the 3rd region and get him to vet 1 quickly, then you start to really rake those CP's fast!

You can only play as one character at a time, so how would having more than 1 character increase the rate at which you earn champion points?

I suggest you do as the rest of us did BEFORE champion points, and make several characters and grind them to Vr 14
Now you can log on each, daily, get your points and out cp the new people.
We aren't responsible for the time you lost when you quit playing. ..that said, soon ZOS will have a catch up mechanism for you (they are deciding how to do it now) ..my guess is it will be in the crown store.

Simple as playing your alt will get you Champion points as well, once he gets to Vet 1. So obviously you can not play them at the same time, but atleast you will earn CP on both characters when ever you play them.

Oh I get that, and it's awesome that this is allowed. But it doesn't work for people that enjoy alts, is my point.

Yes, your alts get to use the Champion Points your main earns, but to earn those points I have to play as my main. Once I finish up with the Daggerfall Covenant, why would I choose to play the Ebonheart Pact with a new character, when that would cause me to miss out on all the CP I could earn by playing it with my main?

I enjoy creating alts because I enjoy the levelling process. "Rush to level 50 so they can earn CP too!" completely misses the point of why alts are so enjoyable imo. That's 50 levels worth of questing that could be spent on my main earning CP.

I get what the OP is saying. Any time spent playing low-level alts is wasted, because you're not earning CP.

In fairness though, this game has never been alt-friendly. Don't forget that you're forced to run through the main questline for every area or you lose a huge chunk of skillpoints. I tried starting another character last weekend. Totally stalled, I couldn't bring myself to redo the same stories for the half-dozenth time.

I understand where you are coming from, basically i can't seem to find a benefit for you at the moment then.
except just the experience and enjoyment of questing on Alts, but your Main will be left behind that way.

If you finish daggerfal the first zone you visit is Aldmeri, you can not choose, so you will always go from Dagerfal to Aldmeri and than to Ebonheart, hopefully this might give you an option to choose where to start your alt from.

Yowch. I'm more of a casual player. I play less than 10 hours a week, sometimes less than 5. I enjoy the process of levelling, exploring, and questing, occasionally jumping into PVP for some awesome siege action.

That's why I love alts! I get to explore new quests, from new perspectives, with new classes and skills. But with the way CP is set up I now have to choose between exploring that content with the same class and skill build I've played to VR1 with so that I earn CP, or get to enjoy a new class and skill set with a new character, but sacrifice on all that time that could be spent earning CP for my main (for PVP).

I don't understand why CP isn't an account-wide levelling system available from level 1. Would make the game far more enjoyable for alt-aholics like myself.

CP are basically a way for vet characters to progress. It was never meant as something to be earned by non vet characters. If your passion is playing new alts up to V1 then rerolling, you're not going to be earning many CP at all and that's by design. Also at 400k per point, I believe you would get your first CP at level 25 if they were awarded during non vet levels. Half of your leveling life, you'd be at 0 CP so it's not like you'd feel rewarded for it anyway. You'd have a grand total of 4 or 5 CP for your entire journey from 1 - 50 due to the lower xp you gain compared to XP in vet levels.

I'd actually prefer the opposite and have CP not even kick in for use until you hit V1. It's a system in conflict with itself.

Even if your alts could earn CP as they leveled up to 50, they'd only earn about 2-3 CP from the entire journey to 50. I think you'd be close to level 30 before you even got your first point.

It's the other way around. Alt's gains to much from your Vet chars Champion points. The points should been character specific, just like all other things.

Just because I have 200+ CPs on my main, shouldn't mean I can spend them 7 times over on 7 alts.

CPs earning from Vet rank is fine, but remove the damn account bound thing.

The problem with this is that then nobody would ever want to create a new character. If I gained 400+ CP points on my main, and then wanted to try something else, I'd have to grind another 400+ CP again. It's just as problematic.

If it's a challenge you want from a new character, you could just... not spend the CP on alts

Thankfully, ZOS don't agree with you, if CPs worked like that I expect a large number of people like me who love playing alts. would simply go elsewhere.

This is the old BOP/BOA argument, my view is that *I* earned the points the characters were the means, *I* put in the effort so since I can only play one character at a time I expect to be able to benefit from that effort at all times.

I have a similar problem. I have a vet 1 Sorc but I dont enjoy anymore playing with it. I So wanted to roll another class, but I always have this bad feeling that I should play with the Sorc to get CPs.

Like. I chose a class, now need to dieeeeeeeeeee with it if I wanna get CPs for the others. I quit and came back so I still do not know much, but I guess it takes an eternety to get a good amount of Cp. That means, more time with the Sorc!
