I would like to know if the player can have a companion join up to travel with but not another player character which I really liked in elder scrolls skyrim to help carry my loot.
Also does the game have a place in a town somewhere like a vault or bank to store my loot and crafting items?

This can be done with your character's inventory as well, through pack merchants and upgrading your mounts carrying capacity.
No, there are no NPC followers. If you want/need help for a quest you have to get another player to help you
