Personally I don't see it. This is no different to players who have done enough chests to know the mechanic and the exact time to stop.

Sure it will help newer players open chests fast and might even help players who suffer issues of never being able to pick a lock.

If you want add-ons which give players a bigger advantage there are a whole lot worse than this, especially in PVP.

A dubious advantage for vendor trash loot... I think I can live with it.
I never fail at picking a lock. Never. I don't understand why some people have such huge problems with it, it must be something with their perception or coordination, it probably feels quite frustrating so I have nothing against an addon helping them succeed. Lockpicking shouldn't be a minigame anyway, it should rely on character skill, but I guess we're never going back to that in TES.

Any Addon that makes it easier for people to lockpick is fine by me. My S.O has a really hard time with anything over 'advanced', whereas I don't think i've broken a lockpick for months and have never failed a chest (well, maybe a couple of masters at launch).

Even with the legerdemain chests, that's fine by me - the sooner they succeed, the sooner I can move on my merry way to the next one, instead of waiting around expectantly.

A lot of people with crap connections will have issues with lock picking.

I some times fail when I am away from home and on a crap hotel connection and I have picked thousands and thousands of locks.

At home, I can do it by sound alone

It depends how deep you want to dive into what is considered an advantage.

The main ones I see people complain about and have tested myself or with others would be the add-ons which give HUD displays for keeps under siege, this gives the advantage over vanilla players as you need not ever check the map.

One of the kill report add-ons also gives updates on when flags are captured, something which a vanilla player can't access without visual confirmation.

If you want to get really nit-picky then you could list damage display add-on for their advantage to know when a siege weapon hits a target without visual confirmation, meaning you can siege over walls or around corners and know when you're hitting the right spot.

Outside of PVP you have add-ons like Master Merchant which gives you full information on sales stats and values, making market trading absurdly easy.


I am not against add-ons in any way, just wanted to mention to the OP that there are far worse crimes in add-ons than simple lock-picking.

This isn't automated though. You still have to press buttons when the prompt appears.

Honestly I find those extremely cheesy. Floaty numbers I don't have a serious an issue with, but text is kind of OP. Being able to discern when to block, cast cc, break cc ,manage ultimate use, and other such things are a part of the skill set that differentiate between what makes a player good or not in my opinion. I'm still up in the air on buff/debuff timers.

Don't get me wrong. I'm definitely a hypocrite. If I was into pc gaming I would without a doubt be using these as you're gimping yourself way too hard by not doing so.

This helps the hearing impaired. As anyone with hearing sees the stop sign in their minds eye anyway.

This addon has been out there for a while now too btw.
