While I know this is General Discussion for ESOTU, I wanted to take this time so everyone can reflect on Satoru Iwata here and his accomplishments in the gaming industry, as I think this news affects us all as gamers. I am sorry in advance if this is bending the rules of the forum, but as a passionate gamer and designer myself, I looked at Satoru Iwata as a role model for the person he was, and I think I wouldn't be in the same position I am now as an individual if it weren't for gaming companies like Nintendo and ZeniMax/Bethesda that both share the same philosophy in making games that are fun to play and can be enjoyed in a variety of ways.
Gaming is a huge part of my life and always has been. Whenever I felt stressed from situations in life, whether from my job, school, or personal issues, games would always be there to play and simply have fun. Something Iwata once said was that he lives by "Making the impossible possible." It is a quote I live by today whenever faced with an obstacle I think I can't overcome.
You will be missed, Satoru Iwata. Thank you for all of the good times you have provided for all of us as gamers, for inspiring us, and giving us a medium where we could fill our lives with enjoyment everyday.

! Indeed, I was too. My condolences to his family and all that knew him. He was, by all accounts, a great man who contributed a great deal to his company and industry. I remember when the company was underperforming, to prevent laying off any employees, Iwata made a decision to take a 50% pay cut along with all other Nintendo executives for a year. Never had I heard of a company as large as that doing so before. It was something that went viral as soon as the announcement was made.
After I had read into the bile duct growth he had in 2014 and saw the way he looked on Nintendo Direct upon returning to the job later in the year, I knew things couldn't have been progressing well.
The sad part is that we all thought they stopped the cancer before it was too late by removing the growth, but I want to believe it was actually already known information that he knew he was still sick, which could explain why he didn't attend E3 2015. I haven't felt so sad about the loss of someone involved in the entertainment industry since Steve Jobs...

Look at it this way too: *If the Queen of England or the USA president were to be murdered by an unknown assailant, we'd be entirely unable to discuss it anywhere on these forums.* That's just not right.

I meant on the ESOTU forums. I think it's pretty normal to have an off-topic, general section of some kind, even if it is just for gaming stuff on most forums nowadays. Blizzard Entertainment has a forum for non-Blizzard games and another for movies, TV Shows, and other forms of entertainment, as an example.Edited by Korozenn on July 13, 2015 4:20AM0 -
