Okay imagine this...
You wish to buy 200 Iron Ingots.
You go to your Quartermaster NPC, and click him/her.
You are met with a screen much like the Guild Trader Screen.
However, once you input what you are looking for the Quartermaster runs off.
A little while later you get a Mail in your box from your Quartermaster saying something like; "I have returned.".
You go to Him/Her, and open his screen, and are met with ALL the items from All the Guild Traders that match your search.
Then, you can buy which ever one you would like.
Now, here is the kicker...
It is a SKILL LINE.
So, it would be just like, say, Enchanting.
A list of passive that affect what type of items you can search for, how often you can search, how many concurrent searches you may do, etc.
The skill line could be leveled up just by using your Quartermaster...so, the better of a consumer you are the more flexibility the system gives you.
Anybody think something like this might work?
EDIT:
One more thing...so that this wouldn't be a "gamewide auctionhouse", how about you have to personally go to each "zone/country" to check each one's quartermaster?
That way we STILL have to "put in some work".
But, instead of talking to 10 traders, and doing ten searches, we just have to do it once per nation?
Because finding some of them is a real P.I.T.A..
Something like this would make it easier for the consumer to find things.
And, since guild-members can sell things from any bank, they are taken care of.
And, the person from the guild would STILL have to go to a guild trader to bid on them.
It just seems like a good "middleground".
And, I think, it would really boost the ingame economy....how many people actually make it a point to travel to that "one lonely trader" that is a ten-minute walk from the closest wayshrine?
In fact...I don't even bother checking the traders where there is only one there anymore...just not worth it to me.
