Although I was never effected by this system so I'm not sure on earlier zones.
I am concerned about putting the skill points in them. .
Here's why. First off, any character who isn't VR1 or higher will never get a writ to craft something that's higher, than VR1 because all VR2+ writs are turned in in Craglorn. So a non-VR character will only get a writ to be turned in in the last available non-Craglorn location, even if the proficiency/potency is maxed. If a character has completed the quest that sends you to Coldharbour, that character will get VR1 crafting quests even if that character is below VR1, and the turn-in location for those quests is in Coldharbour.
So here's how Enchanting writs look:
- Potency level 1: crafted item level 1-15; turned in in 1st alliance zone (Auridon/Glenumbra/Stonefalls)
- Potency level 2: crafted item level 10-25; turned in in 2nd alliance zone (Grahtwood/Stormhaven/Deshaan)
- Potency level 3: crafted item level 20-35; turned in in 3rd alliance zone (Greenshade/Rivenspire/Shadowfen)
- Potency level 4: crafted item level 30-45; turned in in 4th alliance zone (Malabal Tor/Alik'r Desert/Eastmarch)
- Potency level 5: crafted item level 40-VR3; turned in in 5th alliance zone (Reaper's March/Bangkorai/The Rift OR Coldharbour)
- Potency level 6: crafted item level VR3-5; turned in in Craglorn
- Potency level 7: crafted item level VR5-7; turned in in Craglorn
- Potency level 8: crafted item level VR7-10; turned in in Craglorn
- Potency level 9: crafted item level VR10-14; turned in in Craglorn
Now compare that to how Alchemy writs, with fewer levels for an alchemist to invest in, look:
- Proficiency level 1: crafted item level 3-10; turned in in 1st alliance zone (Auridon/Glenumbra/Stonefalls)
- Proficiency level 2: crafted item level 20; turned in in 2nd alliance zone (Grahtwood/Stormhaven/Deshaan)
- Proficiency level 3: crafted item level 30; turned in in 3rd alliance zone (Greenshade/Rivenspire/Shadowfen)
- Proficiency level 4: crafted item level 40; turned in in 4th alliance zone (Malabal Tor/Alik'r Desert/Eastmarch)
- Proficiency level 5: crafted item level VR1; turned in in Coldharbour
- Proficiency level 6: crafted item level VR5; turned in in Craglorn
There are simply fewer ranks to put skill points in before you start crafting VR potions, so you'll never turn in an alchemy writ in the 5th zone of your alliance.
Edited to add in Coldharbour info, because I forgot about it...
@MissBizz
Well, I am level 24 (just hit it yesterday). I'm at work now, so I'm guesstimating at the levels of my skills, so they will be give or take 1-2 levels off).
I have improved proficiency level 2 in woodworking (level 15?), blacksmithing (level 12?) , and clothing (level 14?). These writs require me to turn them in @ Grahtwood.
I have only 1 skill point in improved proficiency for cooking (level 17, hit it last night), so I can't add the 2nd skill point to this skill line until it is level 19. These writs still need to be turned in at Vakurel Guard (spellcheck).
I hope this helps.
Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for! I too am currently at work. I can confirm that putting a point in to a skill will send you to a drop off location that you have not yet entered, as this all started when I put a point into Alchemy Proficiency on my alt and suddenly my level 6 alt was expected to drop off in Gratwood.
It is specific to your skills. Currently I have an alt with 1 point (tier 2) in Blacksmithing, Alchemy and Enchanting and 0 points (base, tier 1) in Clothier, Woodworking and Provisioning. If I do all 6 writs, I turn in the first 3 in Gratwood, the second 3 in Auridon. My main has the opposite crafting skills, and also turns in 3 and 3.
My concern came from doing the basic math that there are 5 zones, but 9 levels for most crafting skills. So clearly at some point some zones would require a double up on writs. I didn't count on all the Vet level skills dropping off in the same place.

What will happen is you will be sent to the highest Leveling zone for your Alliance or Coldharbor or Craglorn. The last two only if you have unlocked them in the game.
