Favorite piece of Elder Scrolls lore?

This is the only ES game i've ever played so I know absolutely nothing about the lore in them. But the coolest story I've come across is from a side quests on the AD side in Grahtwood.

It has to do with giant bone/skeleton creatures. I won't give anything away in the quest but I will say it was a interesting bit of story.

The Bosmeri wild hunt is pretty awesome.

Molag Bal offering to cure you of vampirism if you break up his daughter and her boyfriend (and he has to get the cure from Vaermina)

Falmer stuff, like the Battle of the Moesring and Serenarth.

Either the dragonborn storyline from Skyrim, Or one of the sidequests I really enjoyed.

I can't remember the name of it, but the general idea was this girl had died inside some awesome looking cave on a quest looking for Aetherium, and you had to go with her soul to gather the pieces and craft it.

Come to think of it, it might have been called Aetherium Wars, because I remember a book you picked up to start it. But that story was great imo, all these amazing looking dungeon areas opened up crazily and it was pretty well written.

Dunmer history.

When I first found TES with Daggerfall, it was okay. But when I played through Morrowind, and learned all the lore behind the dunmer... that's when I kinda fell in love with the series...

My favorite lore is how Cyrodiil was a jungle during the time this game takes place (ง ͠° ͟ل͜ ͡°)ง

In seriousness, kind of, this story came to mind. Couldn't find the name of the book it was from but found that Shoddycast had a script on it.

"It is the story of a young girl, a thief and a capable one at that, who had been discovered in the home of a master thief. She had come not to steal, she claimed, but to learn from him. The young burglar stole not for need or even want; but solely for the love of stealing, for the thrill and exhilaration of the theft itself. It was a trait that would lead her to her demise.

She scoffed at the master thief, and mocked him for not living up to his reputation before disappearing from sight. Moving swiftly and silently, she made her way back to the room she had bought in a rundown old tavern. When she entered, she was shocked to find the Master waiting for her in the darkness of the empty room. He showed her the method he had used to overtake her without her knowing. He emphasized the fact that distraction would always be the most powerful tool in any thief’s array of talents, no matter how skilled. But the cat burglar challenged him, still dubious of the man and his reputation. When he told her what he had planned for them, all her doubt evaporated. It seemed his reputation for daring had not been exaggerated after all. The two thieves, master and apprentice, were going to attempt to steal that which cannot be stolen. They were going to steal from Nocturnal herself.

On a dark and ominous night, seventeen white robed witches gathered around a tree to perform a ritual of summoning. As they sang the light illuminating them changed, and the color went out of all things that could be seen. As light left the world, Nocturnal stepped out of the all-encompassing darkness. The witches wailed loudly and knelt before the Daedric Lord who smiled, pleased with their song.

Nocturnal shed her cloak of night, and stood naked before her witches who still moaned their devotion to her with all their might.

From the tree, the young burglar reached for the cast off cloak of shadow, still in awe of what it was she was attempting even as her fingertips were close enough to touch the Daedric Prince herself. But something was wrong. Where was her master? Had he meant for her to make the theft all on her own?!

Thoughts raced through her head. Sidetracked, her focus slipped for just a fraction of a moment and she was found out. Hissing with rage the Daedric Lord demanded to know who this girl was. The breath left the girl’s lungs in a shudder as the everlasting coldness engulfed her. In the scant seconds she had left before her demise, the young burglar noticed that the cowl of Nocturnal was gone! With an amused smirk she finally understood what her master had done. The only thing better than talent and skill, was a distraction, and she was the distraction."

Dragon Breaks, the metaphysical theories of Oblivion and the machinations of the Daedric Princes, the creation of Nirn, the Dwemer Race and the Brass God, just so many things.

The disappearance of the Dwemer. They all just went poof. I loved that quest in Skyrim where you almost find out what happened - but then that guy went poof as well.

The stories of the Dwemer and their disappearance has always been my favorite bit of lore. I love how they advanced their tech way beyond that of any other culture (granted eventually causing their demise).

Granted between the time ESO takes place and skyrim takes place 1000+ years have passed and no one else seems to have made a single technological advancement. Plenty of mages with lightning powers but we can make a generator and have electricity running through a single town. Not a single scientist in all of Nirn

If you love the game and are new to the series I would recommend doing a google search. There is a TON of lore out there on all different things. A quick google search will bring up a lot of info. there are days and days worth of YouTube videos and wiki's with all this stuff listed and organized for you. I usually don't read the books while I am playing "due to my limited play time" but there really is a wonderfully detailed story out there about the history of Nirn

I'm not sure if it's my absolute favourite, but I do really enjoy 2920, The Last Year of the First Era.

That Padomay/Sithis are responsible for creation, despite being an "evil" deity.
Usually games/books/shows will have a "good" deity be responsible for creation. It's a nice change.
