Recently I decided that I should find the lore books to unlock the Meteor ultimate. If you're reading this, do yourself a favor and get an add on to find the lore books to unlock this. It's an extremely powerful damaging skill. Probably the most powerful ultimate in the game.

It has great damage, but I wouldn't call it the most powerful. It has it's drawbacks too.

I'm asking because I'm curious: what is an example of one that is more powerful?

You're talking solely about AoE damage then yes it's very powerful and I use it for that reason, but the spell can be reflected which is why I opt to use other Ultimates instead for PvP. Take for example my Overload; each light attack does 12k damage (per the tooltip) and costs much less to activate than Meteor and gives me an extra bar. Or Barrier which is the strongest ward in the game. Even Soul Strike is very powerful. I can do well over 20k to a single target with that spell and it can't be reflected. The point is, even though it's very powerful and does amazing AoE damage, it's unfair to say that there aren't situations where another ultimate could be seen as a better choice. Powerful is subjective.

My main is a lowly Dragon Knight and has no real AOE skills to draw upon, so Meteor for me was a breath of fresh air. Wow, I can kill multiple enemies at once! I have plenty of single target damage skills so Soul Strike seemed like a waste of time for an ultimate. Magma Armor and Standard of Might are decent at causing damage around you, but are limited to just that, in only your area. With Meteor, I can wipe out a clustered group of mobs, or at least severely weaken them with a single ability, from a safe distance.

Wait until you Morph it into Shooting Star, you can get back 1/3 of the Ultimate cost on one hit if the mobs are dense enough.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    Yup. What @Nestor said.
LOVE it when grinding mobs. Shooting Star can be cast almost constantly with the Ultimate return.
Although I love Ice Comets snare.
It was a difficult choice to make.

Given how it works, you will notice man y people use t for a single-target ult as well. Only drawbacks come from pvp and poor use.

I've been getting as much as 3/4 back while we grind to vr14

    absolutely love Meteor

but Suppression Field and other Ultimates are good too, nice when someone can stun enemies for you while you hit them FTW
    One Tamriel killed PVP

DC Magicka Orc Necromancer climbing those ranks ...
