I lost count of how many waves of NPC i had to kill. I fight for 15 minuets with just enough time in between pulls to regenerate power and stamina. The fight never ended like it was tuck is some loop. Eventually I had enough and just died. It realy goes to show the competence of this company when a year later the main story line quest is still bugged. I'm about to give it a second try to see if the fight will loop again.

I just went back in the quest room after dying and fought 8 more waves of NPCC before runign back to the zone in door to end the fight. IT seems im going to have to open a ticket and report the main quest lien is broken

I just told my guild about the problem and they told me I had to drag the gargoyle to the statues around Verandis. Not quite sure how anyone would guess to do that without someone telling them first . I must say sorry for my angry comment in last post. I was just upset from all the serve lag I had over last week. It ruined the days my friends were trying to play together.

To rez a long lost thread, how is this still an issue in the game. The quest direction indicates Verandis will deal with the statues you must protect him in the process. This and the "hint" (PROTECT VERANDIS) indicate you should just fight the waves of monsters until he is finished. Only after looking online did the answer appear, this is poor quest design - that success requirements doesnt match the definition of the words used to direct the player how to succeed; to structure all implicit and explicit direction to the player for a particular response, but completion requires doing something different. Looking back this has been around since 2014...

How long does it take to get a quest updated or fixed in ESO? Or is this just an ESO feature as a new player I will have to get used to, that there are just major quest lines that have stages that are idiotically designed.

He does verbally give directions, says something like "if you get a chance destroy the statues".

I had the same issue as the OP back when I did that quest, and I remember Verandis saying that, and in between waves I frantically moused all over the statues looking for a way to destroy them. This is the first time this kind of mechanic is presented in the game (at least if you're starting with DC; maybe ever), and there really isn't sufficient indication of how you're supposed to go about destroying the statues. The usual mechanics we see are 1) kill monsters and 2) look for an interaction prompt on stuff you're supposed to interact with. That doesn't work here and it's disconcerting, especially if you're working hard just to deal with the gargoyles.

It's a lot like that werewolf guy you have to lead through the fire before you can kill him. No idea what they want you to do (if you weren't paying attention to the text or their chatter)...and generally figured out accidentally.

That werewolf one really had me confused! It was my first character and I believe I died twice at least trying to figure out what to do.

I got lucky with the gargoyle one, because I happened to attack one near the statue and it got destroyed. Still, I didn't realize right away that the gargoyle had done it so it took me some time to complete it.

Reviving this thread again, because this was a pretty poorly designed mechanic. How has it been in the game for so long?

    Why necro something so old?

Also: I just did this quest for the first time a week ago. The quest hint now tells you to smash the statues with the gargoyles. No issue.

    Hello everyone,

This post is to let you know that we've felt it necessary to put this thread down, as it seemed to have died some time ago. At this time we'd like to try and keep Draugr threads from roaming around front page, pushing down newer and more lively threads. Please feel free to create a newer thread on this subject if you are unable to find a more recent one on the topic.

    Thank you for understanding!
