Can you accidentally bite someone as werewolf?

So, it's been a few days now and I have yet to bite someone.

A buddy of mine was waiting for me to get to lvl 6 on my werewolf for Bloodmoon. One day I was on my character screen checking on my buffs when I noticed that I had already bitten someone with a time of 4 days left before I can bite again.

Now, I know I haven't bitten anyone yet but does anyone have any idea what may have happened or whether this has happened to you before?

Only place you can bite is at the werewolf shrine and you have to be in wolf form. I don't see how anyone can do this "by accident" Does it say bit an ally?

Yes there is a message telling me that I've just bitten an ally and must wait X amount of days.

Happened to me. Due to the sheer amount of people around, I was attempting to bite someone else and then someone ran in front of me and I bit them instead. No, this was at the shrine, so just use extreme caution if people are running around like crazy

Ah ok, then this makes sense. I remember being at the shrine howling and scratching at the air and others in human form kept swarming around all of us. I guess someone got my first bit then.

From what I understand, it's not usually an accident. There have been a number of stories about bite and scratch stealers who intentionally jump in front of vampires and werewolves at the shrines .

it can happen but it's not anything to really worry about if you are doing it right unless if everybody is running around i can see it happening but i really wouldn't ponder on it too much just find a little safe spot and you are good to go so just don't worry about it is what I'm getting at

I was going to give out free bites, looks like I will have to make sure to go in a group to hold off the bite thieves.

Oh, yes I imagine that person INTENDED for me to accidently bite, but I did not intend to bite them. Fortunately the next time I was there, there was less people and we found a little piece of land people didn't seem to be running so haphazardly through. I was also be extra cautious.
