Quests in Groups - Thoughts?

Hello.

I find that doing quests in a group is quite possibly the worst thing ever invented in ESO. I would much rather play this "MMO" solo, which makes no sense. I want to play with my friends, but the system is terrible. Share doesn't work for those who already completed the quest, and/or will be in a different portion of the same quest.

Can it be fixed to match the Borderlands style quest system?

Group Leader sets the active quest which sets for all in the party. If you completed the quest prior, it doesn't give you the quest reward. You at least know where everyone is headed, and what's next.

Thoughts?

Takes communication with the entire group to make sure everyone is on the same page.
The quests IMO feel like a normal TES game's quest for the most part so soloing them it's crazy bad. I would like to quest with friends which is almost impossible with how the quest sharing is tempermental and refuses to share quests if even the slightly amount of progress was made.
Don't worry there are probably add-ons to fix these issues.. Wait I'm on Console.

Craglorn is specifically created for friends/groups.

There are a couple issues with questing in groups. I don't blame them on zen, they are just inharent to a solo, completable zone.

The first is that it is impossible to coordinate. Three people can't be on at the same time always. To find the time for three people on and playing will severly cut your playtime. The rest of the time your twidiling your thumbs. To stay on the same steps is going to make someone play slower than they want to. If your going to have quests that change the environment and stay immersive, then youll have to be doing the same things at the same time.

The second is its too easy. The content its all designed for solo play. Vet zones used to be group focused but they made it easy. Until you get to Craglorn, questing is best solo.

The best thing you can do is just quest on your own then when friends are on do group dungeons, pvp, public dungeons, anchors and world bosses.

Now when you get to Craglorn youll end up forced into the first issue. Youll need people on the same quest step and certain parts require certain number of people. The missing guardian took me a week to find the people on the right part to start it. Upper craglorn main quests are better made, where anyone can join and help. Also there are repeatable quest through all craglorn.

I think the best thing they can do is add repeatable quests in each zone that are more difficult, but not have them require a group. Design them for 2-3 people like craglorn delves.

I've never group quested. Only group delved or ran dungeons.
Reason being: No ones ever on the same stage of quests as me, and their all Solo-able.

Thank you for your input. I have friends that like to go really, really slow. (A level 15 still on Bleakrock Isle). I've done a massive amount of Nord Dancing due to sheer boredom. On the flip side, I have some friends that have ADHD and skip through all the dialog and don't pay attention to anything and constantly cycle through quests.

A happy middle would be nice, but I just end up mostly frustrated/bored when questing in groups.

It can be done - but you need to have a regular group and stick with it from the start, reserving that character only for when playing in that group. I've been part of a group which meets for about 2-3 hours every monday night for the better part of the last year - we don't progress quickly (we're only about level 34 now), but we've been pretty good about keeping ourselves in sync with quests. We even discuss amongst ourselves a group choice for red dialogue options and stick together with it. It's sometimes awkward, but mostly works, and we have fun doing it, which is all that really matters.

We have noticed that a number of quests in the lower level zones have been retooled so that groups can finish them more cooperatively, but not all of them have been modified that way.

The only real issue we really have is when quests start up a cut scene when the first player finishes a dialogue. For example, a lot of the Rivenspire quests do that - and it's pretty jarring when the first player to finish the dialogue clicks on the last choice and all four of us are suddenly dropped out of the dialogue without finishing it.

(The other real issue is you can only do this with a small number of groups - because you'll run out of slots for alts. Our group of 4 also has a group of 3 and a group of 2 for when different players miss a Monday night for some reason, but that means 3 of my 8 slots are tied up with characters I only play occasionally…)

All that said, it *would* be nice to have the ability to share a quest the other players in your group have already completed, or that players are on different stages of, and have everyone get back in sync on that quest when you do -- it would make more casual quest grouping more palatable.

    Hello.

Share doesn't work for those who already completed the quest, and/or will be in a different portion of the same quest.

Obviously, then people would grind the same missions over again and get good rewards.

The obvious solution to that would be you should get money for completing quests a second (or additional) time instead of skill points / items, and probably less XP as well. (Much as when you kill a boss a second time, you seem to get a much smaller reward…) Adds a bit of complexity to the quest reward mechanism, but nothing too overwhelming. The only real risk I see is that if you share the last stage of a quest to someone who hasn't completed it, they get the final reward without having done the earlier stages.

Might want to read an extra sentence or two in the original post. : )

My friend and I just started due to the virus and it appears this issue still exist few years later. He shared a quest with me and I started it from the beginning and he started where he left off and I effectively wasn't able to party with him. What is the point of partying? I understand I'm new, but doesn't really seem very put together. I could be missing something so I'm aware this could be my issue not the game, but can someone explain what I'm potentially doing wrong if so.

Personally, I do like seeing a new story for the first time uninterrupted. However, I do enjoy doing it a second time with friends Sometimes they pick up on something I missed.

However, if you are not enjoying the people you quest with then you are questing with the wrong people. Some of the best PvE content in the game requires a group.

The landscape content isn't much fun to do in groups anyway. Outside of world bosses and maybe a few world events, you or your friend would probably just kill the enemy before your teammate could help out much anyway.

If you are looking for content to do with your friends, I would recommend doing dungeons together. Questing in a group is more likely to just make things so easy it's boring.

Please practice your necromancy skills on a target dummy, not forum threads.
This is from 2015, when quest sharing etc. worked very differently from how it does today.

Questing together with more than one other must be quite challenging - in regards to agreeing how quickly the quest should be done, how much time is spend on listening to the dialogues, investigation of stuff lying around and so on. I do quests with a friend once in a while - she is patient with me wanting to listen to dialogues, but it is still very fast from my perspective. I need time to look around and take in the scenery, whereas she is quick like a whirlwind and I have a hard time just to keep up. It is nevertheless fun, because she lets me do the dialogues, but there is no time at all to investigate anything really, because I can just follow the crown, trying my best to keep up - and meanwhile I miss most of the scenery unfortunately.

If i imagine having to do that with a stranger, who might even be less patient and even be quicker than her, it just wouldn't work for me - there is just one "first time" and it shouldn't be a rushed experience - regardless how fast this would generate XP and sky shards, if it is quickly done together - it is a loss in a whole, I need time to experience it, so I prefer to solo quests.
