How about lowering the amout of requiered tempers/tanners/resins?

Everyone is mad about how their gear will be useless with vet 15/16 and blame the level increase for it, but i think the main problem is actually how expensive it is to upgrade a single item. 8 yellow items are around 5k gold each which makes 40k for each item.
2-4 weapons/shields + 7 armour items makes 360k/440k gold. Buying PvP items cost tons of gold too. Also i guess there will be probaly new jewelry item too which will cost a large amount of gold again.

How about cutting the requiered amout of quality items by half?

Will never happen. Properly skilled, it only takes 2 greens, 3 blues, or 4 purples to improve. It takes 8 for gold, but those are supposed to be the rarest of the rare items. They could reduce it to 6, but then people will complain that it took so many more beforehand, and the reduced number of needed tempers will cause the prices of those tempers to fall.

The level increase is just ZoS introducing another gold sink into the game, and possibly driving some crown store sales. They were supposed to get rid of veteran ranks, but this looks like another promise ZoS has failed to keep. Instead they're making even more VR ranks, and will probably continue to do so as more content comes out.

By the time you have a couple of toons at VR14, 440k gold is not unreasonable. Many career players are sitting on multi-millions of gold, and this is the audience that ZoS is targeting with this move. It mostly affects the few people who have multiple toons on the leader boards and the time to whine endlessly on the forums. The majority of players are just going to view this as more crud to work through until they can get to max level and build out their final gear set.

Sure, I can see them being rare. Problem is it isnt worth it. Upgrading from purple to gold only gives you a very minor stat/armor boost, the same amount of benefit you get for going from blue to purple, or green to blue.

The cost and number of materials needed scales up exponentially, but the benefit of the upgrade does not.

Yeah, the benefit of the upgrade is equivalent to one level at the moment. So a Green level 20 item is like a white level 21 item and so on.

Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.

I always found it a bit stupid. You only need 2 green boosters to upgrade to green, but 8 of the rarest to get legendary.
I think, the opposite should be the case. 8 Boosters for green,4 for blue, 3 for purple and 2 for gold.

    But this won't happen.

you will never be able to keep your gear, and from vr14 to vr16 there have been over 8 months more then enough to accumulate new tempers to upgrade new gear, if you sold them or just didn't do any work to stack up for upcoming gear progression well then you the only one thats to blame for that.

after vr16, trust me it wont be the last set of gear you will ever get to wear. They will find a way to bring new and better gear to the game, they already talked about seasonly gear progression.

It´s been baffling me since release and i still don´t understand why the cost is not 2 green, 3 blue, 4purple, 5gold. But i guess something that makes sense just does not work well with esos development team at all.
