PS4 - How do i keep the same wep for 2 sets?

Is there a way to use the same wep but have 2 skill sets? i'm sure you could do this on PC in past but when i try on console it just unequipped the main hand staff.

You can't equip the same weapon for both primary and secondary slots. You can use two different weapons with the same stats or two weapons of the same type.

PC had always required seperate weapons per bar.

This doesn't stop you from having 2 different (or duplicate) weapons on both bars to have access to more skill slots
