Hey guys! So I've been anticipating controller support for the PC version since I played the game in beta, and honestly, after seeing Xbox One/PS4 gameplay, I'm a little concerned. Not to trash the devs, I know you guys work hard on ESO, but the control scheme you came up with for controllers is quite disappointing. It doesn't resemble a typical Elder Scrolls game's controls at all. I understand that this game is quite different from previous Elder Scrolls games, but I've been using Xpadder to play, and have created what I believe to be a much better control scheme than what I've seen on consoles. Here's my current scheme below(keep in mind that with native support it could be simplified even more):
My Scheme~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LS: Movement
RS: Camera
LS Click: Sneak/Toggle Walk(hold)
RS Click: Change View
A: Jump
B: Roll/Autorun(hold)
X: Sheath Weapon/Swap Weapon(hold)
Y: Horse/Exit Siege(hold)
RT: Attack
LT: Block
LB: Use/Sprint(hold)
RB: Abilities Modifier(see below)
Back: Player Interaction(must hold)
Start: Menu/Friends Menu(hold)
Dpad Down: Map/Journal(hold)
Dpad Right: Character Menu/Skills Menu(hold)
Dpad Left: Use Item(hold to open item wheel)
Dpad Up: Inventory
Abilities(Hold RB and hit the corresponding button):
A: Skill 1
B: Skill 2
X: Skill 3
Y: Skill 4
LB: Skill 5
LT: Synergy
RT: Ultimate Ability
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are other binds related to addons that I've not included, but above is the basic controls for the game that I've bound. Of course, with native controller support the Dpad could be set to only Dpad Up to get into menus, and Dpad Left for Item. I've been playing with a controller extensively, and feel this scheme is far more useful than what I've seen. LB to interact works well because you can continue controlling the camera as you try to interact with smaller objects I.e. bottles. The face buttons are assigned to closely resemble the controls of previous Elder Scrolls titles(with A to jump instead of Y). But most importantly the RB is a modifier to use A, B, X, Y, LB, LT, & RT as abilities, which is much better than wasting the standard face button presses on them. I don't expect the devs to throw their own scheme out and use mine, but what I'm hoping for is that there is control customization for gamepads(like in other Elder Scrolls titles) and that I can unbind all of the action buttons except for Movement and Camera, so that I may use Xpadder to use my favored control set-up, while still getting the benefit of 360 degrees of movement and a controller UI and HUD.
Let me know what you guys think about my controls scheme, and any improvements you can think of. If you're wondering how to do HOLDS on Xpadder, I've done a tutorial video on YouTube that explains it very well:
