Good one-handed & shield w/ heavy armor class?

I have yet to use this combination, but I think it would be fun to play around with. What would be the recommended "best" class? I'm fairly certain it's DK, but maybe there's someone with first-hand knowledge? Also, as it's only for fun, role doesn't matter much, so base any information on DPS. May go PvP if I enjoy it.

You should specify your question and name the role you actually wanne play. The second I would ask is what race you wanne play (if you prefer some sort of min/maxing).

To be honest sword and board and heavy armor are just skill lines every class is able to play successfully. It depends on role (and build - magicka/stamina - of course).

Do you wanne play a tank type ?
Do you wanne play that just for the looks while questing/grinding/standing around in Mournhold near the bank ? (Answer -> class and race doesn't matter at all)
Do you wanne play it in PvP to make full use of your class skills, while being able to dodge some inc damage ?

For a tank type I would prefer DK (just one word: Fiery Grip), although I have seen great NB tanks too. As race I would prefer Imperial/Nord or even Dark elf (lower health, but fire resistance and bonus to fire skills).

For PvP I am too unexperienced to answer that. I guess it's better to let other people share their knowledge concerning that topic.

Let's just say, if you were creating a one-handed & shield DPS, with heavy armor, what class would you most likely choose? We'll just say it's for PvP, as nothing really matters in PvE. Ignore racial pasives ( :o ). It's just for fun, obviously, as you don't create a main based on such loose standards.

My cautious guess would be that you wanne have 1h + sword equipped just for the matter of having a good defence (block) in PvP. I think you won't use your 1h + shield skill line abilities much, because they aren't that good for viable damage, be it PvE or PvP. As you won't make much use of that skill line - which is stamina based - it depends mainly on the burst damage your class skills provide and how your class abilities scale to heavy armor passives (or what passives for light and medium armor you will lack) and what class skills (magicka/stamina based) you actually prefer. As you wanne make use of block too, I would prefer stamina based skills/morphs.

...and there my knowledge ends...but I could imagine, that at least DK, Templar and NB are all viable. No idea about Sorc (I have a lvl 10 one..).

    What comes to my mind:

    -Templar - > Biting Jabs
-Nightblade -> Killer's Blade / Ambush / (and the godly) Surprise Attack

In all cases you will "sacrifce" crit chance because of not having medium armor equipped, but you might be able to equalize that to a certain degree by using piercing enchantments or the Thief Mundus Stone + divine armor traits.

It sounds like the Dragonknight class may be best suited for you, based on what you're looking for. I'd be more concerned about the class if you were looking to fully develop the character, but you seem to be looking for nothing more than a good time on an alt., running around with a 1H/S. Usually, the only other class that people equip with heavy armor is a templar, and that is often rare, because A.) Most people running as a templar are doing so to be a healer, and B.) The templar class has been somewhat of a work in progress.

In the scenario you've layed out, however, it won't matter which class you choose. Just for fun, if you wanted to fully develop the character, DK would be the best suited class, followed by templar.

    Im Templar 1H sheild, 50 VR3.

while Dks are nice dps, Templar is hands down better survivability in PvP, some of the Aedric and Dawns talents are evil and can be morphed for either Stam or Magicka, added in with self heals you can distance dps or 1on1, pretty unstoppable with the right person.

its all down to play style, i like the self heals and damage mitigation i get on templar.

Im a nightblade tank / dps here. NBs have alot of versatility, and right now the only difference in me tanking and dpsing is gear and build. Resource management for NBs are tops, i'd dare say better than dk tanks even. The Nightblade magicka leech tank is also a very viable endgame tank and is usually great for huge groups and maintaining health even under extreme boss pressure.

Gotta be more specific than just one hander heavy armor build my friend. I have to say all classes would do well in that setup.

If you want to create a 1h/shield DPS character, I'd recommend going nightblade, as that class choice will give you far more offensive options that at least aesthetically appear to be using your weapon than other classes will. Also, a DPS 1h/shield setup would probably want to focus on medium armor rather than heavy; heavy armor is really only useful for a tanking role.

I've found, however, that if you want to keep up the appearance of heavy armor without losing the benefits of light or medium passives, you can typically go 5 light or medium and then add a heavy chest piece and shoulder armor. The appearance of heavy armor is most prominent on those two slots. You can find a lot of medium armor that looks more heavy in design (nord and breton are good options, imperial isnt terrible either), and if you add it in with those two heavy pieces you'll look like a mostly heavily armored character.
