Temper Materials

KingChainsaw13
Does anyone else have difficulty getting temper materials for crafting? I have no issue finding ore, but I never have enough tempers to upgrade anything. Is there an easier way to get blue+ tempers? I have a fairly steady supply of homing stones, but I rarely ever find dwarven oil or grain solvent. If anyone has any tips or if you're looking to sell some (at a reasonable price) let me know. I'm on XB1.

Hirelings are a great source of Green to Purple Tempers, get some of those. I have 6 characters running hirelings, 4 L1's and 2 L3s and I have a great supply of tempers.

You also need to have the Extraction Passive to get more Tempers out refining raw materials and deconning already improved items.

Crafting Writs and Refining are about the only way to get Gold Tempers anymore.

Note, until your in the 40's or better, going much beyond Green is a waste, unless you are planning on keeping the armor for 8 to 10 levels or so, which you can do with a Blue set. Reason, you will out level your armor in a few hours.

I did not really go past Blue until well into the VR Ranks other than maybe a weapon here and there.

I've maxed out all of my Blacksmithing skills and I'm currently VR3. I've completed the writs up to galatite, and receive very little benefit from them. My hireling never seems to bring me any good materials either minus some void stone every couple days. I guess I have to make and level up a bunch of characters to get a good benefit then?

I also looked around at the guild traders for pricing clues but most of the tempers on there are incredibly expensive. One Dwarven Oil was $5,000...there's gotta be a cheaper option.

Just because it is listed at that price does not mean it sells at that price. Dwarven Oil is like 300 to 500 gold, less in quantity, on the PC.

I receive 15 equipment hireling emails each day (well, it would be 18 if I logged in twice a day) and on average, half the mails have a temper or two in them. If your L3 is not giving you any, that's weird. If you have an L1, then make them an L2 hireling it makes a big difference on what you get.

Note, 4 of the characters running hirelings are L4 to L7 Character level, with L1 Hirelings. I get just as many tempers from them as I do from the max level hirelings. But, yes, you need a few of them. It is easy to level a Mule to L6 to get enough points to have 3 L1/L2 Hirelings. You can do that in the first town even and skip the starter areas. Especially if you make them a nice set of armor and weapons to use.

If you feed them equipment to decon then they level up the skill nicely, although you don't get as much inspiration when the crafting skill is less than say about 15 to 20. Unless the character is a VR Ranked character that your doing this with. Anyway, a few trips to the Vile Lab in Coldharbor or other zombie infested area, and you will have all the decon fodder you need. And, since you can get Green, Blue and Purple drops from these mobs, then you can get the Tempers from deconning those too.

Yes Its a huge problem only way around it is to have crafting hirelings on 4 or so alts all bringing them every day. Some have 7 alts with hirelings just to get enough mats.

use hirelings and the extraction for blacksmithing it's metal extraction works like a charm. For the extraction i would recommend saving all ores for a week then you will have so much to extract and you will get a lot of temper. Upgrade it all the way so you can get all of the materials

You gotta put the points into extracting. You will never see a gold until you max it out. It didn't use the be that way before they nerfed it. Also, hirelings and writs will not give you gold until you put max points in extracting too.

Also don't worry so much about upgrading, the numbers don't really work out in your favor until much later. Basically keep it green for armor until level 30, then go blue until V1, at V1 purple until end game, max level then use the gold. Weapons I could see maybe going with blues and purples a bit sooner and that's only because its one item to upgrade instead of 7.

I figured out a decent way to get dwarven oil...although it's not exactly cheap. I've ran into a few merchants that sell blue items. Just to test it I bought 4 blues (1200g each) and all 4 yielded dwarven oils. For the life of me I can't remember where that merchant was though...somewhere in the Alik'r Desert I think. I'm sure there are "blue merchants" in many zones...therefore the prices probably vary. If anyone knows any locations, let me know! The whole hireling thing is just ridiculous lol.

This has been implied, but ... don't vendor your stuff. Decon it all.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

That is expensive considering you can buy Blue Tempers for 300 to 500 gold (on the PC). Anyway, there are two kinds of weapon merchants, those that sell the containers and those that sell the weapons/armor themselves. Containers are a crap shoot as to what you get.

But you can find vendors that sell Blue items in most large trading towns. Maybe not in Zone 1 or 2, but the other ones for sure. Check with Armorers, Weaponsmiths or any other vendor that sells in the category your looking for.

Me, I got most of mine from farming mobs and hirelings.

Oh yes I know to decon everything, haha. I just wish drop rates were a little bit better...I never get any blues or greens...except for staves and bows...or light armor haha. The only blues that are useful that I've gotten have been from quests almost exclusively.

I didn't realize oils were so cheap on the PC. On the XB1, the usual guild trader value is between 2k-5k which is just stupid.

There are also plenty of blue merchants in the wilds...but I've only heard whispers of this. Nothing officially has been released except suggestions to explore everywhere...and I can't seem to find an unofficial guide to these merchants.

Nestor, what areas do you use to farm mobs? I've stumbled across a few in my travels but they didn't really yield anything useful except ridiculously quick werewolf leveling.

Depends on where you are. But in every zone, there is at least one area outside of a Public Dungeon that has quick spawning mobs. For example, Glenumbra up near Camlorn are zombie mobs a plenty. Zombies and Wolves are great for this as they are squishy and numerous and respawn quickly.

Of course the most efficient way to farm is to pull 10 to 20, or more, mobs together, then AoE them down. Basically, your going to spam your AoE skill 4 to 6 times to kill a 3 mob, might as well kill 10 or 20 at the same time.

If you google ESO Leveling 1-50 you can find some guides that show the grind spots in each zone.

Barring that, Public Dungeons are a great place to grind things out too. I would say that other than the Vile Lab in Coldharbor, or the Beach outside of Sentinel, most of my loot farming took place in Public Dungeons. Well, there was a certain delve that I did almost 9,000,000 damage in when I was looking for Warlock Rings.

Anyway, make sure you have 60 to 80 bag slots open on your character to make this efficient, farm and loot until they are full, go back to town, sell enough white items to pay for your repairs, decon the rest and rinse repeat. Following this method, at L40 to L50 anyway, I would get a good supply of Blue and Purple items. At lower levels, Blues and Purples drop less often.
