I know I'm playing ESO, but I go all the way back to when I played UO and can't help but think if this game had some of what it had... I'd be in love with it. Tame monsters or what not to use as pets to help you fight like UO had, but those you could keep dragons and stuff inside your home though... I had a dragon in UO. But I'm not talking about dragons, I'm talking about every creature in this game being able to tame as your "pet" to help you fight. Because the pets we have now seem pretty useless, plus it's fun to go out, and play your guitar thing to put them in a trance, to then use your tame skill...

What are you even talking about? Why do people who don't understand not ask a question instead of saying "no". You can only tame one thing at a time... you cannot keep it unless you somehow trap it somewhere. It goes wild if you do not feed it... The set up in ultima online was perfect. This isn't a "pet" like you seem to think it is like in these newer MMORPG's... This is a concept that worked in a hardcore MMORPG like Ultima ONline some 17 years ago.

Taming allows you to also tame horses to ride, which I guess would defeat the purpose of horses in the crown store... if they even run wild in this game? But it also allows you to spar them, work on other fighting skills, and help you fight. I think it's harder to explain to people who are used to these vanilla, easy games... because no everyone can be a tamer, and you can't just tame the best thing in the game to fight for you. Kids just think of these "pets" that game companies throw in nowadays I think, instead of what I'm actually referring to. If someone who used to play UO when it first came out knew what I was saying, I think they'd agree. But, in UO you only had 700 skill points to divy up among like 20 or 25 different skills.

I'd love to have a wolf or bear or tiger combat-pet for my bosmer archer, but I dont think we'll see it happen anytime soon. Zenimax already botched the entire concept of an effective pet system with the sorceror, and they're probably still in shock over how bad that turned out.

For now, I just have to imagine that my clannfear is actually some odd wild velociraptor from the depths of valenwood.

They were supposed to be adding a spellcrafting system which would have additional summoning spells included in it - things like flame atronachs or possibly conjured wolves or other animals. Problem is they realized that the system was too complicated for their developers to handle, and wouldnt make them any more money than simply throwing some reskinned mounts onto the crown store, so it was more or less abandoned. They say it wasnt, but we all know the truth.

Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.

I would pay crowns to be able to tame critters.

I posted this previously in a crown store discussion:

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/158620/i-would-pay-x-crowns-for

But basically I'd like to see some sort of "tamed critters" added to collectins (so there you can only have one 'active' at a time); and one shot items that you use (scroll, whatever) to 'tame' an animal that you actually find in game. One of those blue frogs that seem to show up everywhere, one of the fist sized spiders or the weird red centepede critters.

Maybe a "larger/more powerful" version to get a combat critter; a horavor, or an assassin beetle or even a wolf.

The idea being that I'd keep paying ... say 100 crowns for each 'taming wand' (or whatever) and I would have to find and tame the exact critter. Couldn't just wave it and summon anything. Couldn't just tame a critter someone else had as a pet.

No, Ultima Online... Which came before WoW. Ya, you guys are getting what I'm trying to say. I'd hate to find out that devs do not do things out of the love for the game they are creating and simply to fatten their pockets?? You have to love a game like this if you are working on it... passion. To leave things out simply beause you cannot charge $4 worth of crowns is horrible if true... that's why the state of gaming is kind of scary anyways compared to how it was.

If this sort of thing were to happen, it would need to fall under a new nature-based mage class. This class would have roots, animals, and environmental shielding spells. (Similar to spriggan magic)

I am strongly against players just having permenant battle companions that will do the work for them. Pvp is supposed to be player vs player, not player vs player and his pet army. It would totally kill the game for me and I honestly would stop putting money into the game (Ive already purchased loads of stuff from the crown store, and eso plus).

If this were a thing, it would have to be temporary, their health would be very limited, and it would cost a lot of majika to even get them. Anything other than that is going to ruin game mechanics and I won't enjoy pvp ever again.

Nope, you have it wrong.. I said NO collecting these things... it doesn't work like that to where you just whip out a spell and you have this thing on your side. You literally walk up and you need to go through a process to even try and tame it... the better the creature, the higher the skill level you need, otherwise you just get attacked. Usually starts with a barding skill in playing an instrument to put the creature in a trance, then you would use a taming skill, then feed it to keep it with you... This is not about building a collection... Stop thinking with your wallet man, it's a skill of the game to have something like this.

That was called druids back in older rpg. And to a lesser extent rangers. But we can't have specialized classes here. MMO's should funnel all characters into eventually being one of 3 or 4 roles.

That's your opinion my friend... wasn't a druid when I played, it was a bard with taming skills. ANYONE can be a tamer if you pick that skill... but you cannot tame everything in the game only what your skill allows you.

in D&D weren't bards druids at some point anyway?
My point was really that I would love it if we had very specialized class skills and a horde of classes to choose from, but all the other stuff (combat, crafting, etc.) which did not fall under the direct area of expertise of the class would be the same across the board. Would make for characters having a certain uniqueness.

I would love the option. I would even be ok with a Pokémon "gotta-catch-em-all" style mechanic. In my thread about The Guilds Act (http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/159824/the-guilds-act-a-discussion) I mention that they could add some ESO Specific guilds that, lore-wise, fail by the time Oblivion rolls around.

One such guild could be the Trapper's Guild who have a skillset to trap and tame animals.
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

I chose to advocate for a "taming wand" or other crown store item because 1-I was looking for things to suggest in order that ZoS could make money - and figured the most honest way to address it was to consider what i would be willing to spend my money on.

2-Being able to tame/interact with critters in the world (however it is done) would increase my immersion and my enjoyment.

3-I think the odds of getting a new "collection" in the crown store are better than getting a new skill line added to the game.

All that being said, with respect to adding it as a I could see at least two ways to go about it.

One would be a bardic skill line, using musical instruments as weapons. It might include things like tame (used as a toggle to summon whatever you have tamed, similar to how daedric summonings can be toggled) or even group effects (based on the use of bardic abilities to increase the morale of allies and weaken the efforts of enemies). This skill line might be accessable by doing some sort of quests for the various bards in game.

The other might be a nature or more druidic based skill line which might include things like tangling plants as a crowd control, summoning 'natural' critters and maybe use of terrain to hide or to travel more quickly than normal. This skill line might be activated by helping the Wyresses, or defeating the bloodthorne cult - not sure what nature based thingie would be cross-faction.

You obviously don't understand what I'm talking about. I already stated I think 3 times now... not like the stupid pointless pets you are thinking of that are added in MMORPG's nowaday. These aren't collectible "pets"... these are ANY creature in the wild that you can tame, and bring it with you, to either fight, train against, practice healing on... in UO their were wild llama's to store things... I don't understand all these "no" responses from people who obviously don't get it. If it was implemented the way I'm speaking, it wouldn't create some upper class of character or anything. It was implemented PERFECTLY in Ultima Online... and if you haven't played that 17 years ago or so, then you don't know what I'm even trying to say because more than one person has said exactly what you said... which isn't even close to what I'm talking about. People seem to think EVERYONE and their mothers would for some reason start taming everything walking, that ain't how it works... tamers were very specialized and few and far between. You would use a skill like "wrestling" for fighting and light swords, not heavy armor, or some mage casting tons of spells.

STOP SAYING NO BLINDLY... On ANY thread. I see it so much in here it's not even funny.

@Fartman you sound like you are having a rough morning.

I adore my sorc pets (and have named them; and am working on a name for the summoned atronach and the 'magelight') and get weepy when the baby wasps grow up and leave 'home'.

But 5 min in a bank looking at the bottom of someone's winged twilight and I can understand some of the ... vehemence here.

I would ask you to not reference other games as a personal favor to me (and anyone else who has absolutely no MMO experience other than watching episodes of the guild); just please explain what you want - and make it a visually based explanation so I can see how it would be.
