Crafting with main char ?

This is my first time playing eso I'm on the Xbox one and basically I have been spending my skill points for crafting because I was told you needed
Crafting a lot at veteran levels so I'm level 24 and now I read that people usually have a main with no crafting and have a 2nd char to craft so u can spend the skill points on attacks and such things. So what I wanted to know would it be alright to continue to level and crafting on my main until I reached the max crafting and then purchased the thing to reset all ur skills and get ur points back and use them for other things? I feel this would work but is it logical?

The dilemma of splitting crafting and combat skill on your main character really won't affect you until you reach VR levels.

Leveling to L50 you should have enough skill points to fill enough basic combat skills while adding crafting as you go along.

If you don't want to worry about it at all, there is a method to get as many as 23 skill points right from the start. You could apply those skill points immediately and have head start in either combat or craft skills, then continue leveling using all your quest/grind points.

There are safe to very-safe skyshards in ALL your alliance zones. You can travel to ALL your alliance zones just by traveling to another player, you don't have to reach Zone level or Quest level for any zones other than Cyrodiil PVP or Craglorn.

DC alliance has 69 safe skyshards for 23 Skill points
AD alliance has 54 safe skyshards for 18 Skill points
EP alliance has 50 safe skyshards for 16 skill points

Join several guilds and use your membership to travel to all your zones. You will get all those skyshards and you will also activate all those wayshrines for easier questing in the future.

And if you want to throw on some Exploration trait gear you can also level up a bit faster by opening all those new locations.

With my main character on PC, I had alchemy, provisioning, blacksmithing and enchanting. Basically, all the crafting skills she needed (I wanted). I have this desire for all of my characters to be self-sufficient, even though it isn't necessary, and I see the benefits of crafting alts.

However, a rule of thumb that I used (though I was flexible) was to use any SPs gained with skyshards on crafting and SPs gained through quests on combat skills. This kept me from putting too many points into crafting.

Once you get to the veteran zones, you should have enough points that repeccing out of crafting won't be necessary. Just be sure you're getting all the sky shards in each zone and doing the public dungeon group bosses if you can (or follow SpAEkus' advice to get all the safe skyshards). At vet 8, I have added woodworking as a crafting skill and have all class/racial passives and all the class/weapon skills I want, plus the guild/other skills I want. I cut back on my level of Keen Eye, but I have all other useful crafting passives (though not yet the ones to make v9-14 gear, v10 food, since I'm still only v8).
