Templar Healer Crafting

Hi there,

Just wanted some advice really regarding crafting.
My plan was to level up Clothing (for light armour) Woodworking (for staves) and Alchemy, provisioning and enchanting fully. I realise this may be slightly ambitious now! What crafting skill lines have healers gone for and which have been most beneficial? How many crafting skills should I really focus on?

Thanks.

I'm not a healer but I do have all crafts at 50 across several characters so have some experience of their uses. :)

Eventually you'll certainly have enough skill points to do them all but early on of course they're precious.

IMO Woodworking is likely not that important while leveling, you'll get drops/rewards which while not stellar will suffice and you should be able to buy one or two along the way if you're short: also, the game is so easy early on it's completely unnecessary to have the 'best in slot' at all times.

Also, in the great scheme of things I consider Woodworking the least useful given the limited range of items it creates and leveling it simply to keep yourself in staves is going to rob you of skill points that IMHO are likely better spent elsewhere until you get to that halcyon state where you have far more SPs than you know what to do with .. you'll get there, eventually. :)

On the other hand Clothier is a great skill, you'll of course have lots of uses for it and get far more 'greens' to skill up on than you will weapons for a woodworker. Of course, this will allow you to 'dress' your character with some selectivity (once you get the motifs you need), which many people (including me) consider one of the 'fun' parts of the game.

Enchanting is a difficult one. It certainly isn't needed while leveling but it's also slow to level so you're best taking it early so you can break down every glyph you come across for some crafting skills.

I always take alchemy and provisioning in a game but beware, your inventory/bank space will come under intense strain from ingredients for Provisioning, there are just too many of them and the recipes that need them can take some time to acquire.

IMO Alchemy is easier, there's a smaller number of plants and you discover recipes by trial and error (or looking at a web site) rather than having to find them in crates, etc.

Hope this helps, or at least points out some aspects you may want to consider. :)

Irrespective of class, the two craft lines most beneficial from a permanent use point of view is provisioning and alchemy.

The other 4 crafts are also very useful, but keep in mind that you are looking at several months of time before you have the craft where it should be. Crafted items are good and comparable with dropped items, but this game is all about set bonuses. So for crafting to be effective, you need those traits researched in order to be able to craft the sets. Researching is a huuuuuge timesink.

Also keep in mind that even though it will get adjusted, nirnhoned will still be one of the most desired traits for the PvP part of the game and that is really expensive to research. On PC, these pieces for research are traded for 25k to 30k gold, the individual trait stones for 20-25k. Be prepared to invest.

As to enchanting, it takes ages to level up and is used about as often as the smith/tailor/carpenter, maybe a little more. Since you can harvest the materials by yourself, you can always ask others to do for you in exchange for the kuta rune and some petty cash.

Healers use mostly Clothing and Woodworking for light armor and staffs. Although you will need a couple of heavy armor items if you want to survive in PVP so Blacksmithing is a good choice also. My templar is a max crafter in Blacksmithing, Clothing, Woodworking. I play the game with my wife and she has maxed Provisioning, Alchemy and Enchanting so we have everything covered.

As someone mentioned above, go with two characters for your main crafters to help split out skill points.

I would suggest just sticking to spending points on those you mentioned in the OP. Vendor the metal stuff, although you could research Cuirass and an extra armour (I did Sabatons) until you reach Region 3 then start deconning and selling the ingots (or decon from the start and sell the ingots). Don't spend any points on metalworking until you actually decide to start wearing 2 pieces of metal armour, which I recommend for Cyrodiil or VR 6 Cadwells.
